This place shouldn't be serving steak especially because they don't know how to cook it properly. I asked for medium well and was given my steak literally rare....after they took it back the 1st time and brought it back out it was even worse...it's sad because they should know how to cook a proper filet mignon but they don't. Will never recommend this place to anybody. This was my 1st time and definitely my last time. The only thing about this place that gets 5 stars is the inside interior. There's a galore of fish tanks but their menu is definitely last place

I love Captain Jack's because of it's Old-World charm. For those of you thinking this is a fancy fine-dining establishment, you are wrong. It's no Mastro's, or Flemming's, but that doesn't mean the service isn't top-notch. The service is excellent! But the food (and menu itself) are Old-School. The attire is dinner-casual. (Check the website) The menu is mostly seafood, steak, or pasta with seafood or steak, and a chicken or veggie option. The side dishes are also minimal; baked potato, mushrooms, or asparagus-I think? Most meals come with a basic house salad. No kale, arugula, or mint, watermelon-feta salad. I don't even think they own feta! It's like the seafood version of Clearman's Northwoods In, or The Steak n Stein, but better, way better. (That's not be an insult, just a 'visual' of the dimmly litted, casual, old-school steak/seafood joint). Anyways, the bar is excellent and looks like an "Old Ship" with nautical ropes and navigation decor. And...the drinks are perfectly strong! There is a dark piano lounge, with a guy that sings on the weekends. He takes requests, but it's mostly classic singer-songwriter hits like Billy Joel, Elton John etc. There are usually people all ages in there which makes it fun, especially for sing-alongs. CJ's is a blast from the past for sure and it's probably my favorite restaurant in Huntington Beach.
Been here a few times thru the years. It’s not like what it was before but the food is still on point and service is great. The live musician at the bar is fabulous and friendly. It’s always nice to hear a live voice at an establishment. It’s a comfortable place for some prime rib and king crab ?.

We just moved to Huntington Beach. We were told about this restaurant and decided to go on a Thursday night. I called ahead of time, they said we didn't need reservations. We walked in to a mainly empty restaurant and were told we would have to wait for 20 to 30 minutes for a table. Of course we went to the bar, had several drinks and an appetizer. Drinks were fair at best, and the artichoke was undercooked and hard. $50 later, we were seated. The staff was exemplary, explained how the restaurant works, and gave some very good suggestions. I had the seafood combo and my wife had the halibut. My seafood combo was average . My wife's halibut was overdone, which the staff did change out. Unfortunately it took so much time, she had lost her appetite and we just boxed it up and took it home. The staff did realize we didn't have a great experience, and kindly wrote off two of the drinks. We are foodies, and really don't care about the restaurant decor. That being said, be prepared for very 1970s, dark old style moderately noisy dining rooms. We will probably give this restaurant one more try because the staff was great, I'm hoping for a better eating experience next time. Even with two drinks written off, the total bill was about $250 for both of us. Not an inexpensive Thursday night!

Great food.... friendly staff... They do pack you in a little tight in the dining area, but I understand rent is not cheap. My only concern was the supper small mens bathroom. Would be difficult if you had a walker and forgot about it if you have a wheelchair. I'm not sure if there was a second bigger one. I will be going back again.
Wheelchair accessibility: It's tight inside there. I would call ahead and tell them you have a wheelchair in your party

Nice place, good vibes. Only complaint was with the steak in my surf and turf. The inside was cold and fat not rendered. Sent it back once and came back the same way. Didn't want spit in my food so just left it on the plate.

I've been going to Captain Jack's for over 30 years and I can say it's simply the best prime rib and crab legs available in Southern California. I wouldn't waste my money anywhere else this place is the real deal; if you don't like your meal let me know I'll pay for it.

My girlfriend got the Halibut and that was fantastic . I got the surf and turf and had to send it back because the steak was the toughest steak I
ever had and the lobster was extremely overcooked. The second dish came out the exact same way. The drinks were extremely overpriced as well. 30 bucks for two jack and cokes? That is nuts. No drink is worth 15 bucks. Our server was excellent and the staff was nice. Everything else is a rip off

This is a local favorite for those who enjoy a classic American dining experience. The décor and ambiance might not be the trendiest, but the restaurant’s location right next to the river ensures that the food is always fresh. The seafood here is especially recommended—the king crab are fresh, large, and served hot, which is a refreshing change from the cold crab legs often found in Las Vegas.
However, parking can be a bit of a challenge. There is valet parking available across the street, which is convenient if you don’t mind the added service.
Overall, if you’re looking for a place with great seafood and a local charm, this is a spot worth visiting.
