Kalaveras - Huntington Beach

This is definitely a cantina vibe. Music was loud and lights were flashing but the manager was very attentive. She actually brightened the lights over our table to minimize the flashing. Food was delicious and service was decent. We've been here before and we'll probably return.

Went for happy hour that starts at 3 pm. Ordered the birria tacos, oh man, they were da bomb! They also have a delicious margarita with cucumber that was amazing! We're going again for a repeat.

If you have an allergy - do not go here!

The servers are not trained on allergy awareness, nor are they trained to double check with the chef on what allergy ingredients are in each dish before ordering or serving to the table. We told our server there we had a cilantro allergy and asked for the loaded fries and birria tacos. The serve brought the fries with an avocado sauce that was visibly made with cilantro, and there was a visible cilantro leaf on the tacos.. he then mentioned the tacos were marinated in cilantro. He did not offer us another option, did not offer to remake them, did not offer to take them off the bill - just left them on the table and did not check back with us, we had to flag him down - these items would have sent our guest to the hospital! The manager didn’t even offer an apology or a comp and complained that we wanted to split the check.

Other notes on the service, we were one of three tables in the restaurant, no water glasses were filled, we had to flag the server down each time we wanted another drink and the server even came back to our table and said “sorry for the delay, I was catching up with a coworker on their weekend plans” no joke! That was a direct quote made to the table.

I’ve had other people complain about this restaurant but we had never been so figured we’d give it a try though we will not be back after this.. it’s no surprise the restaurant was empty.

Hostess was confused about how to check me in from Open Table. Eventually seated and waited for about 15, maybe 20 minutes for someone to come to our table. Restaurant was only about 10% full but after a while my daughter was getting irritable and the loud music was irritating my boyfriend so we left. Maybe I'll try again in the future when I'm with more patient people but starting with a margarita would've made the wait easier.

Girlfriend and I sat down at the bar and ordered two drinks. Bartender brought her the wrong drink and no drink for me then disappeared. We waited about fifteen minutes then left an untouched drink on the bar. We ended up going to another restaurant where we got both drinks and a wonderful dinner. So we'll always remember Kalaveras for being the start of a great date night.

I hope that bartender is alright ... 🤷‍♂️

Food was decent, but the server didn't arrive for 15 minutes to bring water or take our order. When the server finally arrived, she took our order without writing anything down, and 2 out of 4 entrees were wrong. I would not come back again.

The service is ALWAYS good at this location. This time we had Marbella and she was so sweet and attentive. Everyone is so sweet & nice. I always feel welcomed. The food is bomb and it comes out quick. Drinks are bomb always and they have a good happy hour. Oh and the music is bomb
playing reggaeton.

We visited Kalaveras on a Saturday night and were surprised it wasn’t as crowded as expected—made for a relaxed and efficient dining experience.

The fajitas were flavorful and well-prepared. The pasta was decent but nothing extraordinary. Drinks were solid—well-balanced and nicely presented. Service throughout was friendly and attentive, no complaints there.

Overall, I’d call this a solid 3.5-star experience—good food, good service, and smooth execution. Nothing mind-blowing, but definitely enjoyable. Worth a visit if you're in the area and looking for a chill night out.

There was little to no wait when we entered. We ordered two appetizers and those were ok. We got the Kala Sampler & Queso Fundido. I've eaten at Kalaveras before and their Queso Fundido didn't taste the same and it wasn't as tasty as before. The only good things on the Kala Sampler were the wings and quesadilla. I was looking for their molcajete but it was replaced with the Parrillada and it was alright. I wouldn't order it again and it can't compare to the original molcajete. The rice and beans came out on the cooler side and the rice was a bit tough. Our waitress Gabby was sweet and checked in on us but she wasn't overwhelming with checking in on us. She was super sweet and was professional.
