Love this place! The hole in the wall spots are always the best! I don't know if they changed the recipe for their Hennessy chicken wings but the first time we had them they were AMAZING the next time they tasted like honey mustard wasn't a fan. The servings are extremely large so bring your appetite! Pineapple Lemonade diabetes in a glass but freaking DELICIOUS. Next time I will make a point to save room for dessert!

This location is located in Imperial Beach, CA and has a mom & pops ambiance. The food took over 1.5 hours to come out & the order came out wrong. The people are nice but the service of food preparation was too long. In my opinion, the fried catfish was good, but everything else was not that great. We ordered the seafood gumbo and it had a burnt taste to it. We also ordered the catfish and shrimp platter but they didn't include the shrimp. We waited for the fried shrimp for another 10-15 on top of the 1.5 hours we already waited for the food. The seafood Mac n Cheese was mid. Overall, this place has potential. Don't expect for food to come out quick.

Nice people, clean and neat! And the food was fantastic! Being from the Midwest, and here in San Diego for 2.5 years, this is the kind of place I've been looking for!

Starting off with this is the best catfish I've had here in San Diego. The restaurant location and ambiance may not be the typical ig worthy post but I promise you the food and serving portions sure make up for it. We ordered the seafood platter and Mardi Gras plate with shrimp. The breading for the fried food was amazing I can't wait to go back to try some poi boys sandwiches. The red beans has a nice spice kick to it. Everything was cooked to perfection. We had a breading pudding desert to go because we were so full from our meals. Once got home to try we couldn't put our fork down. This is truly a hidden gem in southern San Diego. I look forward to my next meal in the very near future

This spot is amazing! The food is top notch. Full of flavor and full in size. The shrimp are huge, 1 catfish is size of 2 at other spots. Crab cakes are the best I've had outside of Maryland where I lived 15 years. I know Crab cakes! Gumbo bowl is delicious and will not be finished by 1person, but that's good so you can have some tomorrow. The portions are over the top, the music is welcomed entertainment & a distraction from some areas that I know Nas, owner, is focused on getting better at. Sure, patience is required, but isn't it with all things worth having and the food is definitely worth having. We had several people willing to take care of us at various points including Nas. Go!! Take your wallet, you'll wanna try everything. Pack your patience and a partner(s) you can enjoy music & conversation with, and by all means, get that Bread Pudding to cap off the meal. AMAZING!!

By far the best soul food I've had in San Diego. We devoured the catfish plate and rice, beans, shrimp, sausage plate. I'm gonna a try the gumbo next time.

Super slow service-came in at 12:30 on a Saturday with only 2 diners ahead of us and waited an hour for food! Ordered dessert to go while we were still eating our meal. Everything is too salty and too sweet (and I love salt). No diet soda or unsweetened drinks available. Food portions are HUGE! Shrimp and grits were very salty and dry, no sauce of any kind. Fried catfish and beniets were overcooked. Red beans looked like refried beans they were so mashed up. Atmosphere is dark and furniture is flimsy. Wanted some really good southern food and I was very disappointed.

I was so excited to finally catch them when they were open. I had heard great things and I just moved from the New Orleans area so I was craving a good shrimp po boy and some beignets. I got my order to go. When I got home I opened the sandwich box first and there was a slice of lemon in there with a LIVE bug crawling on it. Then I looked at the beignets. BURNT!!!! I’m pretty upset. I tried to just deal with the beignets being on the crispy side, picked one up, huge hair cooked into it! $35 for bugs, burnt beignets and hair!

This food is amazing. Don't take my word for it. Just look at the pictures and see for yourself. Better yet just come and try it. And support your local black owned business for Black History Month. Great service, nice atmosphere, soothing music and flavorful food.

The food is the bomb!!!! Heavily seasoned with tastes from New Orleans. Portions are worth all the money. Food is fresh and hot right out the kitchen. Those Hennessy wings are FIRE! The mac n cheese is the cheesiest. Red Beans and rice have a distinct flavor that I can't figure out???but they were good too! Cat fish straight from the water fried crispy on the outside but moist on the inside. Pretty big shrimp for you as well. The service was great. One waitress that handled it all. She earned every penny of her tip. She was pleasant but focused on her tasks. The cooks were doing their thang!!!! The atmosphere was nice. Reminded me of New Orleans. A little chilly at first but after a few more bodies came in, it warmed up. Nice bluesy music in the background. Nice place to hold a small event. We will certainly be back!! Some have mentioned the long wait. We didn't experience that. Appreciated the time to give out quality food. It's worth the wait and the money!!!!!!!!

Delicious!!! The food is well worth the wait. Plan accordingly and get that . It's some of the best food I've had in SD. ‍

Food was VERY GOOD thank you to whoever was in the back cooking, only critique was the time it took for us to have our food served, maybe that was cause the amount of people working in the back? But nevertheless food was amazing.
