Stopped at Shields today. We had breakfast, followed by a walk around the gardens. So many trees had fruit on them, just going to waste. Signs all over saying "don't pick the fruit." Instead of letting the fruit rot on the trees, why not pick the fruit to sell or even donate to a food pantry? I was saddened seeing all the fruit going to waste.

Definitely a must stop when passing through La Quinta/Indio. The store has fun souvenirs, the cafe is beautiful and the food is delicious, and the date shakes are sooooo good! Not to mention the staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming and provides excellent service no matter what you are doing or getting here.

We visit yearly. It appears as if some major renovations have recently been completed. Last year, 2024, the place was looking shabby and run down. Today, 3/12/2025 it looked fresh and new! Nice to see the improvements. We'll definitely keep returning in the future. The Walk is wonderful.

The date shake tasted exactly like the 1st time I tried it when my grandfather took me there. Also Picked up some great spices, like the hot spicey date seasoning, which went great with BBQ chick wings

A legacy destination that's been around over 100 years! The boutique style shop blends with their smoothie counter and restaurant in a timeless vibe of warmth and cheer. Their selection of knick knacks is as fun as it is eclectic, but the real winner for me was the Date Smoothie. I've enjoyed myself a good bit of dates in my time but I had no idea a date smoothie could taste so splendidly good. It's hearty, it's sweet, it has that distinct date flavor without being overpowering at all. Zero graininess, so smooth and velvety. I live almost three hours away but could be tempted into making the drive just for this shake!
Honorable mention: you don't have to make the drive for just the smoothie, the town of Indio nearby and other local sites (see: Anza Borrego, Salton sea) will give you loads of stuff to do while you check this place out, just make sure you stop by here too!
