We had a blast coming out to stay at the campsites this year. It was just beautiful. Our family all came down to stay for the weekend, take the new boat out, and do some swimming and fishing. When we ran into some issues with the engine, one of the lake staff, Matt, towed us to the beach and managed to get it running again then pointed out some areas where the fish were biting. My husband caught an 8lb rainbow trout! We're already making plans to come back and stay again soon.
I could never say enough good things about Lake Camanche. We recently held a Celebration of Life at the Blue Oaks group site at the North Shore and it was the absolute perfect setting to celebrate our beloved son/brother/nephew/cousin/uncle/friend. The camp sites were extremely well taken care of, the lake is absolutely stunning and the staff truly went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was as enjoyable as possible given the circumstances. I highly recommend booking your visit to this true California gem!
Had a fun time even with the heat. We had 20 family members between a few sites and right on the water. Love the peninsula camping best. Friendly, clean, store with goodies, food and even ice cream. Toilets cleaned daily too! Showers available and pets welcome. Full marina with rental options on a variety of equipment choices. Thank you Dani for stopping by our camp area with fun free gifts for the kids. A very nice surprise and appreciated! We typically camp here 3 times a year plus many day use visits.
$18 entrance fee for day use I thought was very expensive especially considering we could only stay 4 hours because of the heat. Dry and lots of bugs, limited power for charging phones etc. Bathrooms needed maintenance. Saw lots of staff driving around but no one stopped to clean bathrooms. Weather was very hot and minimal shade. Dry, weeds everywhere.
Stayed at Monument RV park in my motorhome. The RV pad was large and electric close by. Water and sewer were way at the back of the RV pad. There were low hanging branches so I did not use sewer at site. I used the RV dump site. The ground surrounding the RV pad was full of burrs. Be careful and frequently check your dog for burrs. The dog parks were very nice, there were burrs but less than at the RV park. It was quite during the week but extremely crowded and NOISY after 10 pm the weekend.
Wanted to share with you the marvelous family get together we had at Lake Camanche-South Shore. In particular, we wanted to share with you the great service that Pam provided our group. She attended to all our inquires and helped us with all our questions. In one of the cottages, the air conditioner was not functioning during this heat wave so she provided the swamp coolers to help lower the temperature. There were instances in each of the cottages that needed clarification, i.e. how to turn on the stove hood fan and light in the ADA Cottage. Also, helping us with the door locks and door knobs that did not function. There are some items that need the attention of the maintenance staff. In Cottage 5, the light on the stove for the oven remains on even though the oven is not in use; and the living room blind that faces the parking area is unable to close completely. Management may wish to include a box of facial tissue in the units.
Worst customer service ever, people had been turned away claiming the camp sites are full while they were not, due to lazy Rangers on site that are not updating the employees at the entrance of the available sites that got vacant. And the employees at the entrance are not helpful at all because they were not allowed to issue permits or let any car in not even to drop off people and there stuff. we had to leave one of our cars parked on the road outside the lake perimeter while there was plenty of space available. If it was not for one of the employees who let us use one car that already had a permit to re-enter without recharging us again, to pick up the people and there stuff who came in the car that was left on the road. Otherwise they were saying to walk with the stuff to lake site which was a very far walking distance. I gave it one star due to the help of that employee other wise it would be a zero star.
I have nothing good to say about this place... My boyfriend and I are avid campers and were excited to find this place was opening for partial camping on June 12, which also happened to be my birthday weekend. Yippe! Not really... A) They don’t answer calls, check voicemail, or call you back (which they can’t do because the VM box is always full). To make any communication with them even more difficult - do they check or respond to emails? No. So if you have any questions, don’t expect to get them answered. B) The reservation process was a joke. I booked a premium site waterside... when we arrived we checked-in and they directed us to our site, only to see it had a very close neighbor (they were supposed to be opened at 50% capacity with Covid - every other campsite closed (our ‘next door’ neighbor also had way more than 8 people that are allowed on a site, plus a pit bull, lucky us). So we were returned to the front gate to let them know and they said actually we had been moved to a different site, no where near the water which is what we initially booked. The site was awful. When we returned yet again and I spoke to a supervisor about other options she was about the rudest person ever. Told us to just deal with it. So, back to crappy site we didn’t book. C) Covid precautions are a joke... large crowds everywhere. And I get some people aren’t into the facial covering thing outside, but if you prefer that for those around you, I did not see a single person wearing a mask (expect, for credit, the workers at the gate, but no guest). D) The bathrooms are disgusting. Again, I know this isn’t a hotel and am no stranger to roughing it, but you’d expect more measures of cleanliness these days. E) And lastly, I think:), if you’re excited about the alcohol free family-friendly zones (we didn’t mind, that was all they had available for us)... well, don’t get your hopes up. We arrived to beer cans and bottles left all over our site (Obviously from last time they were open - Again do they ever clean this place?) And last night our neighbors (family reunion maybe) were enjoying quite the party... yelling shots/shots/shots!! I am writing this as I sip my coffee on this Saturday morning, listening as those neighbors wake up loudly complaining about their hangover and debating when to start the party again (with their kids screaming), thinking, happy birthday to me. So ya, that’s what I think about camping at Lake Camanche.

We love coming to this lake and usually stay in one of the South Shore Cottages. The cottages are always clean and come fully loaded. They provide daily housekeeping service. We love Pam C. She is always friendly and is awesome.
Had a great trip with my best friend. We thrift shopped in jackson and valley springs and stayed in North Shore in the ADA cabin due to my friend being handicapped. Pam, the house keeping worker, was very.kind and courteous. She came by daily to see if we needed new toiletries and showed us where the light on the stove was. Such a great help to us. All of u at lake camanche must be proud to have such a cheerful amazing person on your team. Beautiful day gorgeous view. Perfect stay. I give the lake 5 and Pam 10! Keep up the good work family camanche!
What a CRUEL JOKE! Lake Comanche charges each car $9.00 to park and watch the Boat Parade. Problem is it took longer to park the car than the entire length of time the so called Boat Parade lasted. The "Boat Parade" had approximately 10 to 12 decorated boats. They floated by and it was a wrap. Lake Camanche may say they were not affiliated with the so called "Boat Parade." Problem is they made a great deal of money selling 10 minute parking lots. WHAT A CRUEL JOKE! DO NOT GO NEXT YEAR!
Amazing food, amazing staff and great prices. I can't say enough good things about this hidden gem. My family and I have ate here dozens of times and have yet to receive any food or service that was less than excellent.
