Just got out of the buffet. My grandmother and I came here before going to the beach and we were kinda excited. However the food was not as good as we thought. The meat that we tried(teriyaki, pork, steak) were either soft but tasteless or hard to chew ! Absolutely ridiculous. The only good thing here were probably the dumplings and the California rolls. Did buffet didn’t even have any kinda of bread to eat with the food. Also has less food choice. The price is way too expensive for a poorly made food. I do not advise to come here, not worth spending $60 for two in the end! Never coming here again.
It has been many years since oir visit to this place. Well, glad to visit this place and dine in for the 1st time since the outbreak. The food quality has suffered a little but still enjoyable dining with others around us. Kids loved the food since they were getting tired of eating home.
Food was delicious and fresh. Great selection. I recommend getting there early. There was a line before they opened, but they got everyone seated quickly... and definitely worth the wait.
As of October 2021, Saturday dinner is $33, and $30 for seniors. The food is just as good as pre-Covid. Lots of roll variations. There are a variety of drinks for ~$2, look at the drink menu on the table. Dessert was surprisingly good (they're usually bad in buffets). Service was great. It was bustling at 6pm, but got quieter at 7pm. They close at 8:30pm. You can pay at the cashier by the door after you get your bill.
An awesome spot to fill up.Right off the 405 freeway in the beautiful Irvine, busy body district.Seafood for days, that's all Japanese cuisine.Often grilled but also served raw as sashimi or in sushi.A great spot for the fam to fill up and make memories.
Be extremely carefull, please. I ordered yesterday night and sushi smelled so bad that we put it on the bin. This is a health concern, please be carefull with this place.
This was our first time at Makino. It was amazing! The food was great!!
Probably one of the worst entry control methods around — sign up at the door. But late comers we’re adding their names to the bottom where there were no lines for names after a new column was created, basically cutting the line. After that it was okay but the threat of fomites transferring to another person touching the tongs was very high. Staff works incredibly hard though.
This is the last Makino location in California and it is worth every moment of your time. Helpful, polite, and attentive staff along with a fresh variety of sushi and tasting portions of ramen and udon. I'm so thankful this place opened up and survived the pandemic. If I could give it 6 stars I would.
My go-to sushi buffet joint. The staff is super friendly and we get treated like family.

I've never met a sushi chef so excited to accommodate an allergy! He gladly made us 5 rolls free of our allergen in just a few minutes! Such a wonderful experience!
Restaurant will not honor the price they advertise on their website. When I asked them to, I was told the manager would come speak to me. They did not. Instead they sent the server back who said "all he can do is give a small discount to the kid's pricing". The reason? Because the higher price has "been around a long time". The right thing to do would have been to honor the price online and then UPDATE the website. What should have cost approx $80 ended up costing $94 and some change after the discount ($104 before). The manager was given the option to do right by the customer and chose not to.
Didn’t think the quality was worth the price. The salad bar, sushi, and noodle bar were good. I wasn’t a fan of everything else.
Very few selections. Though the waitress who attended us was very courteous and good in follow up. .
Great food and price
