My wife and I did a one day getaway. And it was the most romantic, peaceful, serene and high end dining experience for our 24 hour vacation. The lodge is perfect for a couple that wants to relax, enjoy the ocean breeze. You truly do get to see where the river meets the ocean. The restaurant was truly one of our favorite food experiences in Northern California. The quality of the seafood is simply spectacular and the intimate setting is a perfect setting for you to enjoy and spend time with your significant other. I hope to come back one day in the future.
Magic sunsets, incredible food and warm, kind service ✨
Happened on this by chance. Cool spot. Great service, atmosphere and even better food. Would 100% return to the area just to eat here. drinks were creative and well done.
Stayed 2 nights in the Headlands House. Absolutely incredible place with Great views of river and ocean. We saw two bald eagles flying around both days.
We also ate dinner at the restaurant. Elk rare was great, girlfriends loved the Passat and prawns, but the duck confit eggs were were the best thing we had.
Would and will stay and eat here again.
This is literally one of the finest dining experiences in Sonoma County. They should have at least 2 Michelin Stars. The sunset on the deck is breathtaking. Bert and his staff making the experience perfect. And don't drive home, stay in one of their amazingly perfect cabins or houses on the water. It is well worth the journey.
I was really excited to try this restaurant because the reviews are glowing and make it sound great. Unfortunately my experience wasn’t so good.
It started with a terrible parking situation. Their lot was full and they are a bit out of the town, where is one supposed to park? We ended up waiting for someone to leave to take their spot.
Now I can forgive that if the food is good. But the food was kind of bad. It wasn’t inedible but for the price it was disappointing. We got the ceviche and the ahi tuna. The wine wasn’t great either.
The atmosphere was nice, but more as a place to bring your parents than a date…
Gorgeous views. We love this place! Thanks Bert.
Posting with regards to the restaurant - be sure to get a reservation! Very booked throughout the year.
Peal Cabin - Bed was super comfortable; loved the exposed redwood room, the room was small and modest, but the view makes up for it all. Must visit the restaurant, too!
Headland house was just perfect! Food was amazing!

The River's End has gone through some changes and sometimes changes are good, but in this case it wasn't. The service has really gone downhill, but not the prices. The small touches like the candlelight at the table - gone. Now brown parchment paper is on the table to save a penny on linens. Did I walk into the butcher shop by accident? The lovely cozy bar that once was, is now stripped down, no tiered alcohol, the overhead storage with hanging glasses is gone too. Now it's just plain and far too modern. It used to say stay a while, as did the entire restaurant. We've been there many times as a couple, with friends and even company dinners, but this was the first time we were truly disappointed. We said it was our anniversary - absolutely nothing was said or done until the very end when someone finally figured it out and it was when we were getting up to leave. We were only one of two tables being served on arrival in the entire section. Our server was pleasant, but completely inattentive and not proactive. We sat for 15 minutes with nary a drink request and had to flag her down. When we finally got her attention for a 2nd glass of wine with dinner, she didn't even look my husband's way or ask him if he wanted another one so I had to flag her down again. The food was pretty good, but both of ours were undercooked -- by a lot. There were suggested wine pairings with dinner in the menu -- never offered. We asked to end the night at the bar for an after dinner drink, but by 8:30p the bar was closed and they clearly wanted to wrap up. For the price, the fact that we planned well in advance for our anniversary, and we were on time, yet had such a disappointing experience, we very likely will not be back. As a side note - We also really hate that they just handed us an ipad for wine - come on. Also, bread at the table should not be a charge, especially not 6-7 bucks.
We made a dinner reservation through Resy for a Wednesday evening. We confirmed the reservation through the automated system, but then received a notice Wednesday afternoon that the reservation was cancelled. When I called to find out, the message indicated the restaurant is closed on Wednesdays. You need to update the reservation systems you utilize.
River’s End is one of those rare spots that actually lives up to the view. Perched above the Russian River where it meets the Pacific, it’s the kind of place you plan a whole day around — sunsets here are unreal. The food’s just as good: fresh, creative, and clearly made with care. Service is warm but unpretentious, and the whole vibe feels like a perfect Northern California escape.
We were driving the pacific coast highway and elected to stay and dine here. The restaurant was excellent, super service, good food, on the pricey side - especially the wine. Unfortunately the fog was down so the sunset was not great. Our main issue was the cabin we stayed in. It was ‘rustic’ to say the least, bordering on tired and grubby. The cabin was on a slight lean and the shower tray had filthy water collected to one side of it. The bathroom overall was so tiny that there was nowhere to put any toiletries. The bed was comfortable and we did have a good sleep. Overall, I would dine there again but I do not recommend staying.
Such a lovely place to spend our final dinner in California before heading home. THe sunset location here is ideal. The cocktails and wine selection are excellent. The entrees and selections were superb. The service was so kind and attentive, we felt right at home. Would definitely go back, and we highly recommend.
