We've been here several times before and this time was very disappointing. My wife had halibut, which was overcooked and dry and the seared crust on it was hard and inedible. I had seafood stew which was ok, but not exceptional.
Bruschetta was good.
Chocolate cake was excellent.

Went there last Friday and was soo happy. All the plates were beautiful. I had the pan seared halibut with the house corn. Smoked bacon and shivered asparagus in the corn dish! It was delicious with generous portions.
The waitress was very friendly and efficient and the lavender lemon drop martinis were not bad either;)

An absolute joy to dine here. Love the history, love the people, and especially love the food. If you're into history and spooky ghost stories, this is the perfect place to visit!

We have now eaten here for several years. They are always understaffed. Expect 45 minutes from the time you order to getting your food. Didn't see our server much but the young blond girl busser gave great service and attention.
My wife's filet mignon was ordered as medium. It was dry and cool. Of course, it sat waiting to be served. I had the seafood pasta in a sherry cream sauce. Seafood was good but sauce was crap. It had no taste and reminded me of water with corn starch and a bit of flavor I cannot place!
It is a go to in the area but actually is just a place to say you had dinner there. It probably had a good reputation over time but sadly, has faded.
Go there to say you did, but find somewhere else if you want your money's worth.

A $3 Scoop of Ice Cream Lost You a Lifetime Customer Our recent experience at the Iron Door was deeply disappointing and frankly insulting. We’ve been coming to this restaurant since the early 1980s and have always considered it a staple. But after this visit, we will not be returning. We were a group of nine with a bill well over $500. My 9-year-old daughter ordered a $42 steak medium, and it was served rare. As kids do, she cut it up before realizing it wasn’t cooked correctly. When we brought this to the waitress’s attention, she apologized but did absolutely nothing. No offer to cook it further. No replacement. No concern. We simply asked if she could be offered a scoop of ice cream—a $3 goodwill gesture—since her entrée was barely touched. The manager checked with the owner, who declined. When we asked to speak with the owner directly, we were told he was too busy to talk to us. Too busy for a long-time customer. Too busy to address a very reasonable request. Too busy to save a relationship that has lasted over 40 years. We did not order dessert. We will not be returning. And we will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone else again. The photo of the steak is attached. But more damaging than any photo is the message your restaurant sent us: long-term loyalty doesn’t matter. Hospitality doesn’t matter. And a child’s ruined meal isn’t worth a moment of your time—or a $3 scoop of ice cream. Message received. We contested the charge for the steak with the credit card company card company and they refunded us. Citi: Great news! We've resolved this dispute in your favor and issued a credit of $53.87 to your acct.

we've been coming to the Iron Door for 15 years and this Mother's Day was not up to their usual standard. the entrees arrived before the salad and soup. the service was rushed and careless. The French Onion soup was luke warm and inedible, a beef broth with onions that appeared barely cooked. Several tables sent the soup away but they kept serving it to new tables. There was confusion over which meals were for which tables. Our friends at a different table, one of them received the wrong entree. Its3 not an inexpensive restaurant by any means and at $150 for 2 of us we expect better.

Loved this place. Nice old building, well maintained and fixed up with period décor. Menu isn’t too big but had nice options. Same with the wine list, though I confess had many things I didn’t recognize. California centric in the wine selection. The staff was very attentive, and service was great. Wife enjoyed the beet salad (which was beautifully plated) and Cajun shrimp appetizer as her main. 4 nice size shrimp, with a delicious sauce and toasted bread rounds. I went for the peppercorn steak diablo. This came with a choice of soup or salad, I went with the soup, split pea. Seems like the wrong time of year for this style (in the summer) but it was very tasty. The steak with the pepper crust and mushroom sauce was terrific. And the Au gratin potatoes were just amazing. We wrapped it up with the berry cobbler (swapping out the standard vanilla with salted caramel ice cream). It was just as enjoyable as the savory dishes. One more thing, while the butter was served in foil packets (which doesn’t really fit with fine dining), at least it was room temperature – so it was spreadable on the bread! Nothing worse than super cold butter, so kudos to the Iron Door!

I went here for the first time for my dad's birthday last month. My parents have been here a few times. The food and service was great. The food is a bit pricey but it's worth it. We will be back =)
