Ok so best place in JT that’s off the main strip. Peaceful, delicious and hearty food. Many options. Great for couples, travelers and families.

Had the most lovely breakfast this morning at the Food for Thought Café. The tofu scramble had a great scrambled egg consistency and the potatoes and soup of the day were well seasoned and fresh. The espresso also hit the spot while my friend and I dined in low, comfy chairs basking in the morning sun. The staff was kind and welcoming from the beginning to end of our visit.

Peaceful little vegetarian cafe run by the "mental physics" folks. Really pretty mid-century cafe building, great views, cool koi pond. WiFi and bathrooms.Food is kinda "old-school" 70's vegetarian. I found the house-made vortex burger nice and "wholesome," but a bit bland - they do have hot sauce and salt on the side, and you'll want it.The compound had kinda weird vibes, not sure what their deal is, but they were friendly and no one tried to recruit us.Vegetarian options: Vegetarian cafe with lots of vegan options

Where else can you enjoy a nice vegetarian lunch in an architecturally significant building?? Love the vibes here. beautiful building, great value for the food. Check their instagram before going to check for their open hours. My only wish is that they were open mondays! A great place to bring your laptop and work while enjoying a nice lunch in a stunning Lloyd Wright building.

Sadly the property, designed by Lloyd Wright in 1956, had been neglected, and appears to be in the very early stages of restoration. The food and service are great and worth a visit for the entire experience. The Vortex burger is a creative use of fresh and pure plant based foods, with a hint of sweet and slightly nutty texture. With the addition of the chipotle vegan mayo gives it a slight smoky flavor. Pinto beans were simply flavored(ask with vegan cheese). Veggie chili is vegan with vegan cheese. Seasoned well. Thick. Served with cornbread muffin(need to confirm it's vegan). We mixed in the vegan rice with the chili. A leisure experience. The Food comes out of the kitchen slow. This is such a unique place and we absolutely loved our food eaten on the outdoor patio seated by a fountain. Everything is vegetarian or vegan and they can accommodate gluten free. So enjoyed the vegan burger which I believe was called the Vortex and was housemade served with a vegan chipotle aioli and arugula. I also had a vegan cactus soup which I believe was a special. Looking forward to returning! Updated from previous review on 2024-01-15

This is an interesting place. The retreat was designed by Loyd Wright, Frank Loyd Wrights son. The menu changes. Open Wednesday-Sunday. Always happy with their vegan food. Updated from previous review on 2023-12-31

Don't be fooled by the rating... this place is hard to find and it's literally a cafeteria at a retreat spot. It's totally fun down and the food is not good. It's also pricy for what you get. The curry bowls came with rice the was scooped from the bottom of the rice cooker. The quesadilla was burnt all the way on one side and they tried hiding it by keeping the unburnt side up. The taco bowls were super small. We were in a rush to go to Joshua tree or else we'd have given the curry bowls and burnt quesadilla back to remake.

Tasty food in a wonderful environment. I enjoyed David’s winter noodle bowl & the coconut curry is a must try! The energy of the surrounding place keeps us coming back.

Never been here before don’t mind the stars, there’s no menu online so that would be a good touch to add!

UPDATE: Cafe offers JustEgg, tofu scramble, and vegan cheese to replace vegetarian breakfast options, but for some reason, they aren't on their menu, you have to ask!Amazing vegan food, in the most serene setting! The staff is super friendly, and every meal we've had so far has been delicious. Definitely give this place a try, and support this local gem.
