Cute dining spot in downtown Julian. I got the Chicken Pie Turnover which was pretty good. My friends got the grilled cheese w/ham as well as the club. Only miss for all three of us were the apple pies. Two of us got the Crumb Pie A La Mode and the other got the Apple-Boysenberry. They were good but not great as compared to the other pie shops. Might have just been off that day. Overall we liked that place and would definitely eat there again

Our family's favorite place to eat during our visits to Julian. On a busy weekend, the wait can range from 1-2 hours..but the food and hospitality are 100% worth the wait. Definitely save some room for a slice of pie at the end. I highly recommend the apple crumb topping pie with some vanilla ice cream.

What a cute a d fun spot to stop and get lunch. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the food was huge. Unfortunately they didn't have a few of the specialty teas we wanted. We will go back and try them next time. We ended up with a patty melt and a special dish I can't remember rthe name of. It was a smothered pot pie style meal. The mashed potatoes were good and the gravy was yum. My friend enjoyed the patty melt as well. Both of us got through on half and the rest didn't quite make it home. Looking forward to going again soon.

This place is awesome! I had the sausage biscuits and gravy, my wife got the two egg breakfast. To start things off, we got the cinnamon roll. Oh my goodness. That thing is huge, delicious, and gooey in all the right ways one of the best rolls I've ever had. The raspberry lemonade was bomb and the hot apple cider was delicious. All around, great eats and drinks. The staff is super friendly and the location has a LOT of history. I recommend reading the story on the menu.

Great little place in Julian! We tried a bunch of things from them and here's our remarks:Back country fried chicken:soft and juicy yet the batter is perfectly crunchy but not too overwhelming that all you feel is the crunch. Comes with fries/garlic mashed potatoes and coleslaw. This was probably the best dish our group thoughtFish and chips:Nice and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Of course a different batter than the chicken but quite good. Comes with fries/garlic mashed potatoes and coleslaw. Solid second placeChicken turnover:This was their speciality but honestly we thought the fried chicken stole the show. It was okay. The dough felt a little undercooked but still good. It was cooked well though but we thought it tasted a bit like Marie Calenders so we probably won't be ordering the next time around.Fresh cold apple cider: great stuff especially on a hot dayOverall their service was very good. The bathroom was clean. Food came out at an average pace. They did mention on the tables that there will be a 5% increase in price due to inflation which is a very fair ask although I wish they wrote that on the menu as well because I am sure people will complain if they missed the sign on the table.Last but not least, they have a bunch of fresh sauce/salsa/marmalade consisting of different ingredients they sell in bottles, try them out.We will be back!

Ordered the Julian Apple Burger. Tasted interesting with the shredded apples. Also got a slice of Apple Boysenberry Pie with Vanilla Ice Cream and then a slice of Apple Crumb with Whipped Cream. All food was great, service great as well!

We had never been when it was empty, but it was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. The food was delicious, the chicken turnover is my favorite and I loved the fries and ranch dressing. Husband also enjoyed the country fried steak but felt it was thicker than other places, not as tender. Our server was cheerful and attentive. I also enjoyed the old school country music, to my surprise. Now we know to go when Julian is less busy, it felt like a small town.

Delicious as usual, was busy, getting close to Christmas. I had their version of a chili size with Cheese and Onions smothered over a well portioned Hamburger Patty and a side of the TortillaSoup. Donna had the Liver and Onions, she said it was great! (I'll never try it ? sorry)Our friend had the Fish and Chips which looked delicious too.

Great cafe in Julian worth the wait. We love their gold rush chicken with homemade mashed potatoes and gravy. Good sandwiches. We all got the chicken tortilla soup and loved it. The hot apple cider is outstanding. Old western decor so you feel like it is standing still in time. Been there more than a dozen times and still not tried their pie because we are always stuffed!

My family and I came up here for two days staying at a Airbnb 5 minutes from town. Just a quick getaway about an hour from San Diego where we live. If you want to see some beautiful sunsets, sunrises and breathing some of the freshest air in a long time. Come and visit Julian a very laid-back area full of cute tourist gift shops, a few beer breweries in a few wineries and lots of apple pie shops there are so many beautiful trees up here, trails to take if you come the Cuyamaca route you can see the lake, fish and rent boats there. This town was settled in 1869 and there is a lot of history here. Check it out before you come and get a heads up you'll be surprised.

2 basic lunch salads and 2 ice teas cost $20ish; that's a bit expensive. We overheard the waitresses complaining to each other about how the cost of running the business was going up... maybe that should be discussed when customers aren't in ear shot. Otherwise the servers seemed pleasant enough.

Very DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!! walked in with my party of 9 and were treated very poorly. Waitress rolled her eyes at us and mouthed "oh no" when we were asked how many were in our group. We will NEVER set foot in that place..... good thing we left because we found a lovely place to eat around the corner.

I liked the chili with fritos. I got their lunch special, 1/2 sandwich, soup, and dessert which was great. The Apple pie was delicious. The owners were nice. It's a family restaurant, nice, quaint family restaurant. I've been to Julian so many times and have eaten at pretty much all the restaurants. This is a place I would definitely go back.

This is a re-post from the other yelp listing "Cowbella Cafe" If it wasn't for tourists, this place would be done. The ladies working were good people, but not the best servers. The food was pretty good, but the owner(s) are cheap, cheap, cheap. Everything is nickle and dime, charges for splitting entrees, charges for take out, no splitting checks, automatic gratuity for parties of 5, drink orders are take out only, etc, etc. If I had seen all the rules and charges to eat here, I probably wouldn't have. Lunch of hamburgers for me and my wife, and chicken fingers for my son came out to $40, so about $50 with tip for 3 sandwiches!!! This from a place that uses aluminum pie tins as plates. I'm surprised they didn't charge me to use my credit card... Next time I'm in Julian, I'll keep looking.
