I ordered the French toast with fresh bananas and for some reason when I cut into the toast the middle of the bread was bright yellow while the outside was literally gray. The taste was even worse, it tasted like old moldy bread. Even with syrup on it I couldn’t take another bite so I asked for the plate to be taken back. My husband ordered the spicy chicken and waffles that was supposed to be like Nashville hot chicken. Yet it had a bbq sweet taste to it. Service was nice. The employee tried to ask if I wanted a different kind of French toast or anything else so I appreciated that.

On the Thursday and Friday, our experience was 5 star. On the weekend, food paled and staff attitudes poor.
Ordered the fried chicken and lone star bacon burger. Chicken was dry, and the onions on the burger were so over cooked you couldn't bite into them, flavorless burger. Had to flag down servers for any help since our waitress was gossiping at the kiosk.

We have visited Julian many times and every time we eat at the Julian Cafe. The fried chicken and the meatloaf are both excellent. I keep asking for the recipes but no success yet. I highly recommend.
Worth the wait. Friendly staff.

Our favorite place to stop in Julian for what feels like a home cooked meal. I always like to try something new when I come because all the food is truly delicious. Some of our favorites are the meatloaf, bbq chicken salad, chicken tortilla soup and chicken pot pie but you really can’t go wrong. It gets busy during the holidays but it’s absolutely worth the wait. This year we did their thanksgiving menu and everything was fantastic. This place is a true gem, the service is always wonderful too.

You can order the impossible burger, it's pretty good, comes with a significant portion of fries. Service was really good, their vibe was on point.
Avocado toast was good, switched the side of eggs out for fruit which was an added $3 which I believe to be too pricey but still decent.

The chicken pot pie turnover and chicken quesadilla were really good. But the biggest surprise was the green beans--they were the best I've had. I don't know what they grill them in, but the flavor was great.
Also, having tried the double crust apple crust here and at Julian Pie Company--we liked this one better. The apple pieces were bigger and crisper here. Crusts of both pies were great.

What a great lilltle historic restaurant. We visited on a busy Sunday, mid-morning, and had a short wait, about 20 minutes. We were attended to immediately once seated by a wonderful server, Tara. Had to wait a bit after ordering our food but, to be fair, there were three parties of 7 or more that got seated just before us. Food was AMAZING and portions were large enough for two meals. I ordered the corned beef hash omelette with country potatoes and sourdough toast. Corned beef hash is made daily, in-house, and was on point. My wife ordered the pancake stack which consisted of two, plate size, fluffy pancakes served with butter and syrup. Total for the two breakfasts and an Arnold Palmer with free refills, including tax, was $38 and change. About the going rate these days, but the food quality and quantity was well worth the money.
