We went for the Valentine’s Day weekend omakase special lunch and had a truly 10/10 wonderful experience from start to finish.
Chef Mitsu and Chef Mickey created an incredible progression of courses — every dish was impeccable and clearly made with very high-quality ingredients. Each piece was thoughtfully prepared and honestly, every bite was delicious and memorable. The chefs also had such a fun, engaging energy, which made a big difference and added even more to the overall experience.
Our server Julia was such a delight and elevated the experience even more. She was warm, attentive, and made the whole meal feel personal and welcoming.
The vibe was casual, fun, and relaxing, which made the omakase even more enjoyable. It genuinely feels like a hidden gem and we will definitely be going back.
Highly recommend checking them out!

Watch out!! They slip a 20% automatic gratuity in the bill without t telling you. Hoping you double-tip, I’m sure. I wonder if the auto 20% actually makes it to the waitstaff or perhaps management pockets it. Bad business practice.
Food was delicious. Our server Rodrigo was very sweet and attentive. He made our birthday dinner very special. Would definitely come back.
Always my first place I come when I'm in La Jolla. Probably my favorite sushi spot anywhere
My wife and I made a return visit for dinner. Getting a reservation for two was easy through Open Table. We enjoyed several chef specials- tasted delicious (no soy sauce) and the presentations were great. The fish was fresh and tasty. A tilefish nigiri was prepared with the fish scales that had been flash flamed. Sounded weird but was great. Wait service matched the meal. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu and preparation of each selection. He was personable without intruding upon us and attentive too. I asked for one last selection and invited him to decide what it would be based on what we had already enjoyed. The chef prepared three yummy nigiri. As the evening ended the manager stopped by our table to inquire about our experience. We shared nothing but praise for our waiter, the chef's talents, and the food. We will return!
Excellent service and food. Iwashi (Japanese Sardine) was on menu, and was so fresh and melt-in-your mouth good.

Phenomenal experience! The food was impeccable, the staff was knowledgeable and friendly, and the vibe was intimate and chic. It was so good I went back two days in a row.
A unique and wonderful experience. The food, service, and ambiance were outstanding. We especially loved the intimacy of this restaurant. We will surely be back very soon.
Excellent.

Next level experience in the best way. We went for NYE and the service was excellent. I did not like the immediate “you only get to sit here for 1.5 hrs” when greeted it was a little odd of a welcoming but…
Our waitress Michelle was phenomenal she had perfect recommendations and we had a few items from the chefs menu. Every single item is delicious we had the Kinki, Tile Fish, Oysters, multiple sashimi dishes and literally this has some of the best fish I’ve ever had. They fly it in daily from Japan and you can tell.
I will say parking lot is small so if you’re going for a dinner around 6:30-7pm you may want to look for street parking. I also wasn’t a fan of automatic 20% gratuity.

The food and sushi bar experience was exceptional. Sushi some of best I have had outside of Japan. Reason it's 4 instead of 5 stars is I think this restaurant has a hard time meeting reservation times. We had to wait almost 45 minutes after our reservation time to be seated. We weren't the only ones. Everyone in waiting away had same issue and were sitting waiting for at least 30 minutes after reservation time. If they had a bar we could wait at, this would be less of an issue. But, customers have to wait outside in the cold seeing tables empty and staff running around frantically.
Himitsu is a fantastic dining experience! The team is well versed in the nuances of the menu, extremely knowledgeable about food allergies and making safe recommendations for gluten free diners, and the food is unique and outstanding. Sushi is fresh and inventive, starters are outstanding (best caesar salad (wasabi) in San Diego, and even the desserts were special. For people with Celiac Disease, this is a dream come true restaurant - nearly the entire menu is naturally gluten free. Bravo!
While the food tastes decent, the pricing is on the high side. The $30 snow crab tempura was especially underwhelming—small portion, overly battered and oily, with hardly any crab flavor and too much salt.

Absolutely outstanding. Some of the best sushi we have ever had, and there are so many phenomenal gluten free items! My wife has celiac (must eat gf) and she absolutely loved it.
