Everything was truly perfect. They accommodated our request to have a separate table since we had our newborn with us. Our sushi was great and the birthday surprise for my wife was appreciated as well. Will definitely be back!

Great owner, great food quality & tastes, but fix-its include: 1) sushi nigiri rice did not stick together so almost all our pieces made sadly fall apart with chopsticks or even gentle finger grip, 2) out of yummy lobster soup by 8:30pm, 3) sunomono needs simple rice wine vinegar sauce not overly hot & distracting spicy sauce, 4) needs to have simple Plum Wine by the glass or bottle (even cheap Takara from Berkeley good), 5) despite OT resy last resy times @ 8:45pm, the lady servers all HOUND you upon seating that now “last call for food as the kitchen soon closes”...how horrible, RUDE & UNGRACIOUS. The lovely & present owner Mitsu, a proud descendant of famed Mr. Ota) hopefully wants to make $$$ & welcome & keep his customers ? Special place, nonetheless.

Meh. The food was ok. The wasabi Caesar was my favorite thing I ate. The portions were very very small, and I say that from the perspective of someone who is skeptical when sushi portions are too large. The prices were too high for the tiny portions and limited menu. The music was bad and waaaaay too loud. Our server was very nice. And nothing bothers me more than having a reservation for which I am on time, and literally having the first thing they tell me be “you have to finish in 90 minutes” because they have another reservation coming in. Dude - I get it, and there is no way I'm going to be there longer than 90 minutes, but that should NEVER be something you say to someone who is on time and just sitting down.

We've dined at Himitsu multiple times and have had wonderful experiences and food. We started with a lovely evening this time as well which came to a screeching halt when after on hour our server asked if we were planning to order anything else because our table had another reservation. We were shocked. Not sure if their plan is to go from fine Japanese dining to fast food? Very disappointing—the pre-prepared dessert we were offered as consolation added insult to injury. Not sure we'll go back. Buyer beware if you're planning a reasonably leisurely dinner.

Definitely a lot of hype around Himitsu, but we thought the sushi was pretty average—and we're not exactly fancy-pants foodies. We were given the lunch and dinner menus which totaled about eight rolls, and five of them were nearly identical. Rolls were pretty mushy because they comprise of mostly spicy tuna which they really emulsify to a pulp. Overall, great ambiance, great service and very average rolls that are on par with rolls less than half the price. Kinda bummed because it was an expensive treat for us.

Amazing sushi experience, the quality of the food is outstanding and the staff, starting from the head chef, is very nice! It's pretty expensive but is worth it for the quality of the sushi. I recommend the sushi bar, where you can just see the chef elaborating all the dishes right in front of you.

If you are in La Jolla, Himitsu is a must for anyone who enjoys Japanese cuisine. The menu choices were amazing and delicious. The staff was equally as great. We look forward to returning soon.

One of the most enjoyable meals I've ever had. The staff went out of their way to make sure we had a great night. We had Chef Yuki pick out sushi for us and the food was amazing. We can't wait to come back!

This was our second time to Himitsu. The menu is varied with many choices and specials. The fish is very fresh and dishes are creative. When we sat down we were informed that we had 90 minutes to dine. Our food didn't arrive for about an hour and fortunately they did not hold to their dining time limit. Would we have had to take out items to go?! The service was quite slow, much slower than the first time we ate at Himitsu. Prices are higher, quality seems better too but really on a $300 meal (for 4) why charge $3.00 for ginger?! When I saw the itemized bill later I was shocked to see this!!

Hands down the best Sushi restaurant in San Diego! Incredible food and top-level service. I would eat there every day if I could! Thank you for another incredible evening Chef Mitsu and team!

Good atmosphere and nice service. However, I was very disappointed about the sushi. I went there for lunch and got the premium set Nigiri menu. As many sushi, lovers, I would expect high-quality fish, butter, smooth with high-quality tasting sushi rice.

It was our first time there, but it will definitely not be our last! The staff was friendly and helpful, hard-working and energetic. The food was so fresh and delicious and presented beautifully. We sat at the sushi table, and we were quite entertained by the sushi chefs. I would highly recommend this place.
