Ordered right at opening for take out - two of us independently described it as eating yesterday’s burnt reheated leftovers. Not the last night in La Jolla meal we were looking for! Save your $ - order somewhere else! If this is your niche market - it shouldn’t taste reheated.

We dined at Mandarin House Friday evening and thoroughly enjoyed our entire experience. The food was extraordinary and the staff made us feel as though we were guests in their own homes. Our two entrees were perfectly prepared with the sauces complementing the main ingredients instead of overwhelming them. The taste and texture of the accompanying vegetables were exceptional. We appreciate the attention to detail and caring attitude of the restaurant's dedicated team, and we will definitely return often.

I went to eat there yesterday at 830pm, we ordered the food from there and barely ate since it was closing time. I unbox the food in the same package from mandarin house, after a few bites I notice a long jet black hair in my food with the follicle still attached, I have a shaved head, it was revolting! I called them and first they seemed like they would handle the issue, but they called back and said there was nothing they could do, am grossed out and won’t be eating there again. The waiter was nice though, management unprofessional.

Ordered Kung Pow 3 ingredients and Mongolian beef for pickup tonight. Live local, picked up in 20 minutes and home in 5 minutes. Kung Pow was great but Mongolian beef was Luke warm and clearly not cooked to order. Probably someone else's that had been sitting around for an hour. Disappointed. Need to do better.

This place was so fun! Went with a large group and had excellent service! The sesame shrimp app was so good - I want to learn to make it! The decor is beautiful

It was a block from where we were staying so why not? Went on a busy Sunday evening and felt like I was the guest of honor. The servers here are amazing, and there were plenty of regulars chatting with them in between bites. A place like this just makes you feel welcome, which is harder and harder to find in an environment of fast casual. I had the salt and pepper chicken and asked for it extra spicy. It was extra spicy and lightly breaded, not too heavy. They could have added a few more greens, but no problems. The onions were fresh and not overly cooked. We had a lot of great food in San Diego and this place held its own. Not mind glowinglygood just old fashioned American style Chinese with that "family" atmosphere mostly of a prior time and place.

This was our first visit since the remodel, dining here with friends. The service was excellent and we each loved our entrees and the fresh made egg rolls. I tried their signature Mai Tai which was also delicious.

Wow! Just like going out for Chinese food used to be - friendly service, good food, and a nice setting. Our waitress Jeannie was friendly and funny, and the meal was great. Can't wait to come back!

I came here with a few friends during happy hour mid-week. The happy hour deals are pretty incredible, and the food was delicious. We were sat right away, and even as the restaurant filled up, the service was still very attentive. We ordered the chicken wings, cashew chicken, orange beef, and bbq pork lo mein. My favorite was the beef, but everything was so good. Portions are generous. I will certainly be coming back!

I've been ordering Kung Pao chicken from Mandarin house for over 30 years. I used to frequent the 5th ave location, then started going to La Jolla when 5th Ave location closed years ago. I am sorry to see that they have recently cut the portion size of the Kung Pao chicken entree significantly. I noticed it months ago but hoped it was some sort of error. I've ordered for pick up and eaten in restaurant several times over the past few months and had the same experience each time. The portion size is is 1/2 maybe 2/3 what it used to be but the price is not reduced. I would prefer to pay more and get a full size serving. This is very disappointing. Frankly it makes me want stop ordering it altogether. But that's the dish I've been ordering for 30+ years and the reason I come to Mandarin House. It may be time to start a search for good Kung Pao elsewhere.

We’ve been coming here since 1984. No one makes better cashew chicken. The service is always great.

Food was excellent. Step above your average Chinese place . Went on a Saturday night place was really loud . Other than that highly recommend. May need to make reservations
