Sushi Nekosan in La Jolla served incredibly fresh yellowtail carpaccio, perfectly crisp soft shell crab hand rolls, and rich salmon nigiri, all elevated by an amazingly smooth plum sake that tied the whole meal together.
Very happy - great recommendation from a nearby bartender.
Patio seating had heaters and was comfortable.

I highly recommend coming to this sushi restaurant if you are in the La Jolla area. One of the best sushi places with outstanding fresh sushi with a variety of roll types that are delicious and a good portion. We had the Dank, Crunchy and The Drew Sen-Yea! Deserves all the attention. Wonderful service too, great atmosphere with heaters and good music.

Great music, vibes, and some of the best sushi I’ve had in my life.
We got the beef gyoza (fried), Baja lemon cilantro roll, flaming ahí roll and crispy rice roll. Each were unique and delicious in their own way, but also incredibly well thought out and paired with toppings.
Sit on the patio even in the colder months because they have heaters!

Great sushi dinner at Sushi Nekosan in La Jolla! All the fish tasted very fresh and flavorful. We started with the albacore mango sashimi and veggie spring roll and got a lot of special rolls; the Bryan garrie toro trio, flamin ahi, scallop delight, west coast, and dank rolls. Everything tasted great. We enjoyed the plum wine as well. Very friendly and quick service. Lots of outdoor, dog friendly seating. Recommend!

We ordered at 2:45 PM and waited 1.5 hours for our sushi, despite the restaurant not being busy. The servers never checked on us or provided updated wait times.
Keep in mind this restaurant adds a 5% surcharge to the bill, which was not verbally communicated. This is on top of the expected tip which were all options more than 20%.
The sushi itself was mediocre and does not justify the price, which was about 30% higher than competitors. I've had much better sushi elsewhere, with far superior service and atmosphere.
The food was okay, $$ pricey, and NOT WORTH the wait time... we waited for over an hour and the server did not check in on us until we called someone over. Even then, there were no check ins after that. though we were a group of 5, we only ordered a roll each and a couple of nigiri while a couple who came after us got a roll before we did. They did comp us for a couple of edamame but the 5% surcharge was not what we expected either (beware). We are visiting the area from the east coast and this really dampened our experience as it was our last full day. I do NOT recommend this place.

We’ve been loyal customers at Sushi Nekosan for a long time, but today was one of the worst dining experiences we’ve had. We got seated at the bar and ended up waiting over 2 hours for our food. The place was clearly understaffed, and the service was almost nonexistent. What’s even more frustrating is that I placed a to-go order when I first arrived, and after all that time, it still wasn’t ready. Cross contamination. Cutting tuna on same cutting board as wagyu steak. Touching iPad for orders and not washing hands. Very disappointed It’s really disappointing to see how much the service has gone downhill. For a place we usually enjoy, today was just bad customer service, poor management, and a lack of care for their guests.
