We had such a great experience at Sushi Nekosan! The sushi was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The outdoor vibes were perfect, and it made for such a fun and relaxed setting for our work party celebration. The owners were incredibly friendly, attentive, and really catered to creating a welcoming atmosphere. Everyone in our group left happy and impressed — definitely a success all around. Highly recommend for anyone looking for amazing sushi and a great time!

Fantastic food. So impressed. HUGE roll portions. 2 people could eat 1 specialty roll and be happy with a few apps too. Like 10 thin pieces each! Went on a Tuesday night. Full but no wait. It was a little slow because they were understaffed on chefs BUT they gave us free edamame beans without even asking :,) great service and food. Recommend for sure. The Dirty Blond roll was slightly sweet and sooo delish

When we walked in they took over 15 min to seat and ask us about the food we wanted. They had us (3 people) waiting for over an hour for our food. The AC leaks water and it was dripping on me to the point where I had to move seats. And even the food itself wasn’t good or authentic at all. Don’t come unless you want to go to a water park.👎🏼

Service was great, they were quick to prepare the food. Missoula was on point, sashimi was delicious (salmon quality was exceptional) , and the fancy room was very interesting with a very beautiful presentation

Food was very good servers very nice but no warning about the 1hr~ wait for a roll and 2 orders of salmon maki. It was a Sunday afternoon but didn't seem too busy so not sure what happened.

For the price this place should be a lot better. The sashimi meal was mostly the same fish no variety with 4 prices of salmon. They're using flowers and gold to dess up sub par fish. I walked in to see if they had more than just salmon and mackerel they indeed did. So I paid 44 dollars for sub par sashimi with no variation (4 peices of salmonand the rest was all mackerel). Don't call it omakase that is criminal. This is overpriced gass station sushi. Oh yeah the tip screen minimum 20% for these prices in this area you can do A LOT BETTER. My warning should have been the side of ginger that was unappealing and piled a mile high.
The cucumber salad was the best and the location was close to where I parked.
I would not eat here or recommend it. It has the signature of a once great establishment that has fallen off. It's average service and price with 5 star prices. Unjustified.

Don't let the negative reviews fool you. Sushi Nekosan has some of the highest quality fish and most unique/flavorfull roles in all of San Diego.
I'm originally from the Bay Area, and when my Fiance and I first moved to SD, we had a very difficult time finding Sushi Restaurants that were A) worth the price and B) actually serving high quality/fresh fish. Sushi Nekosan checked those boxes with flying colors.
The restaurant is very small, so yes there can be wait times and yes it's in La Jolla so parking isn't the easiest in the world. But for those that truly appreciate high quality fish, this place is a MUST VISIT.
We've been here at least a dozen times and not once have we been dissappointed by the food or the service.
Azuki in Bankers Hill and Himitsu in La Jolla also have very high quality and fresh fish, but the rolls at both of those restaurants are very basic/standard in comparison, plus more expensive.
Our favorites at Sushi Nekosan include:
- Spicy Tuna crispy rice roll (Just trust me)
- Dirty Blonde
- Bad Bunny
- Speicalty Sashimi's
You're welcome.

I’m delivering for Uber Eats and was told it would be a 20-minute wait. I asked to use the restroom while waiting, but they refused, saying it’s only for customers—which feels unfair, considering I’m helping serve their customers.

Excellent locally wild caught seafood 😋
tomoko was super nice! she patiently cooperated with our party of 5, she deserves a raise.
Nice sushi restaurant in La Jolla with a large outdoor patio infront and a few tables inside. It was a cold day and we requested to be seated inside.
Glad we did because it was fun to see the sushi chefs and staff at work. Everyone seemed happy working there and our waitress was very nice.
I ordered the shrimp tempura roll and really liked it. Nice and light tempura batter too. My friend ordered other specialty sushi rolls. They were all beautiful but I forgot to take pictures!
We ordered the shishito peppers appetizers. It came in a very flavorful sauce. The garlic edamame was also good.
Parking was a nightmare. It took me about 20 minutes to find parking 4 blocks away.
Loved this hidden gem at the heart of La Jolla. It's been a long time since I had such good sushi! Really enjoyed a fun dinner here. They are also very kid friendly.
We tried the Mackerel nigiri, Salmon Aburi, Yellexico, and The Dunkan. They were all incredibly delicious. The miso soup was also really good.
Highly recommended!
Excellent Sushi, friendly since.
