What a lovely surprise to find a sushi place that actually caters to vegans and doesn't just offer an avocado or cucumber roll. These rolls were actually thought out and delicious. Perfect spot for after checking out the seals in La Jolla.

Its menu has a section of vegan rolls (about 10). I ordered the vegan dragon. Best vegan sushi I have ever eaten. It is very tasty, with quite rich flavors.

This place was hoppin' busy and my brother and I were seated at the sushi bar area. We got to enjoy watching several sushi chefs at work. I can honestly say that the chefs treat each order as a work of art. We watched as each dish was completed and sent to their table, the amount of care and expertise that goes into the presentation. We had ordered the tuna tartar tower and..it was AMAZING. The tuna was fresh, the onions, roe and avocado were accented by the soy/ponzu sauce. Delectable. The other two rolls we ordered were also very good, but that tower....oh man....do yourself a favor and get that.

Parking: Parking is a nightmare, I drove around for half an hour looking for an open spot. In the end, I parked several blocks away in a paid parking garage that charged $12 for 2 hours.

Be Advised....this restaurant upcharges 5% for Service Fee! Another BS charge above the posted food price. Assume $1 food bill + 25% tip (their suggested amount) + 5% service fee + 10% taxes. Customers are asked to pay 40% above the listed menu price. Please Nekosan, pay your employees appropriately and stop ripping off customers!

They must have changed hands since the last time I ate here. The sushi did not taste fresh. I forced myself to finish it, which I probably shouldn't have. My stomach was upset the next day. And like other reviewers say, the staff just chats loudly, no check in to see how the food is like most restaurants. Waste of money.

Very disappointed in my first Nekosan experience. I have been a long time La Jolla resident and tried this place on Labor Day. I will admit they were busy but the servers just stood inside chatting for the most part while the host texted on her phone. It took almost 40 minutes for mine and my mothers food to arrive and all we got was one roll and a couple pieces of nigiri. They also completely forgot about the hand roll I ordered (brought 20 minutes after the rest of the food). See attached image, this is not what a spicy tuna should look like. It was almost light orange and flavorless. It is ridiculously overpriced for the quality, 6$ for miso soup, and 25$ rolls. All the fish was medicore at best with my salmon hardly even having color. If you want a much better meal try Sushi Ota or Sushi Mori.

Food was very pricey and only okay, service was terrible. Waiter is uninterested in explaining anything on the menu, although there is no description for any of the food items. For the price point Blue Ocean / Harumama is a FAR better experience.

Overpriced for the quality of food.
Food came
Out of order, for a party of 6 one dish would come out for a guest, then 10 minutes later another one. My daughter was the last one to get her roll. An hour later!!!

I recently visited Sushi Nekosan, and it was an incredibly disappointing experience. Despite arriving on time for our reservation, we were left waiting for 25 minutes without any acknowledgment from the staff.

When we were finally seated, the service continued to be horrendous. Our server took an additional 15 minutes to take our order and seemed uninterested in providing any basic customer service. When the food eventually arrived, several items were missing, and what did arrive was lackluster. The sushi rolls were poorly constructed, and the fish lacked the freshness you would expect from a sushi restaurant.

Throughout our meal, getting the attention of the waitstaff was nearly impossible. They were inattentive and acted as if our requests were an inconvenience. Refills on drinks were forgotten, and we felt completely neglected.

In summary, Sushi Nekosan offers terrible service and mediocre food. It was a thoroughly unpleasant dining experience, and I would not recommend it to anyone. There are plenty of other sushi restaurants where you can enjoy better food and, more importantly, respectful and attentive service.
