Punk music, punk people, great crowd, amazing bands.
Great spot for events we loved it
It's a bit of a hot mess, but that's part of the charm. Great spot to hang out, check out some art, see a show, or learn about a great cause.
Nice venue and nice vibe great show with LIE and other bands
A collective art space: save public art spaces!
The Che Café loves to talk about community and inclusivity, but apparently, that doesn’t apply if you’re on the bad side of their inner circle.
I used to play in a band called Fairies Wear Boots with several Che collective members. One of them, Adriana, barely showed up to practice but refused to leave for over a year. When she finally admitted she wasn’t cut out for it, my other bandmates, Lio and Angie, “quit” too. Turns out, the three of them had already started a new band behind my back. I called Adriana out for being an asshole, and now Lio and Angie have made sure I’m blackballed from performing at the Che.
A DIY space should be about the music, not about cliques and personal vendettas. If the Che wants to be taken seriously as a community venue, they should stop gatekeeping based on petty grudges. Otherwise, they’re just another fake-punk scene running on middle school drama.
JUST PERFECT
The Che Cafe has been a staple of the UCSD campus, and the San Diego music community for decades now. I’ve been lucky to attend and perform at this beautiful venue located in La Jolla (just minutes away from La Jolla Shores) and must say there is no other place like it. The stage is as straight forward as they come, but they also setup bands outside in the courtyard to maintain a flow of non-stop music. I’d give it less stars because the parking issue has never, and will never be fixed, but the venue is worth the 5 stars alone. It’s thanks to them that many hardcore/indie/scramz bands are able to have amazing show in San Diego.
Cool venue and local community space. The only DIY venue that I currently know of in SD that is entirely volunteer run. It's a nice intimate space to see up and coming bands, and anybody is welcome to help volunteer at shows too. They also do a lot of mutual aid events as well, which help support great causes. I don't know of many other spots in the area like it.
all ages, vegan, cheap concerts, also have some various volunteering stuff which is cool (ei food prep for border aid)
Restaurantji Recommends
Needs more Ali.
Not enough Ali in the space.
Otherwise it’s pretty chill!
Anti Palestinian, anti semitic and horrible music. Squatting on public owned UCSD land
I go here to empty my 2-5 (two to five) year expired emergency food supply into the compost heap in the adjoining garden, and that is about it.
Nice little venue. High volume. Can't complain.
Awesome DIY place that has been around for decades! I film here and have met a ton of friends and new people here
