The atmosphere is very nice. I highly recommend the Ceaser Salad, ask for more "Twinkies" and you must try "The Hamburger". The drinks are great. The dishes are good, could consider them overseasoned to some.

Lovely re-imagination of this local gem! Great atmosphere, tasty drinks, and a lively vibe. Great spot for some pre-dinner drinks or for a full meal.

We love this bar, been dining here for over 22 years. We've seen it change from the original twice in that time, the latest recently opening so we checked it out today. We ate lunch here and the positives were it was excellent food, good drinks and great service.
It was also our own private restaurant, we were the only diners which surprised us at first. But, once we saw the both very limited and very off-the beaten-track menu choices we understood this is now a place you come when you either want Happy Hour or have a very specific craving.
The menu is oddly specific for a tourist area, none of the very usual comfort food items on this menu here; (not kid friendly in my opinion either) as an FYI). But, to be clear, our lunches were delicious!
Also, in the County of over 1120 micro-breweries, they literally only offer 1 beer on tap and no bottles. One beer! They also only offer one desert. so you either want the one or you do what we did, walk down the street and eat desert somewhere else ?.
But, we do love this hotel and it's restaurants, we've been dining, drinking and staying here for over 22 years (as locals) and still encourage you to check it out.

Looks and feels like the hotel cafe that serves breakfast for guests then stays open to serve drinks to people who don’t like classy bars. We booked dinner for 6 pm and the place had few diners and the majority were in t-shirts. The manager was wearing a white polo and white sneakers - setting the tone, I presume, for the clientele they expect/want. The doors to the street staying open allowed a myriad of flies to enjoy our two small dishes with us. Slow service for two rounds of G&Ts and lack of atmosphere meant we left before ordering more food or drinks - instead we headed out of La Jolla and away from this place. A near empty bar that takes an age to bring the simplest mixed drinks possible is no place to be. For a place that has been hyping itself as a bar, the tiny cocktail menu and relatively small selection of spirits just doesn’t compute. A disappointment on all fronts.

This is such a cool place! The inside is gorgeous, and the outdoor patio is a great vibe. We stopped in for lunch and everything was incredible!

We were big fans of the original Whaling Bar. It has more of a nightclub vibe now, with very loud, bumping music and very loud guests. I couldn’t make heads or tails of the menu. Seemed hip, but so hip, I really couldn’t tell what was what. Might be really good, but we couldn’t stand the environment and went elsewhere without ordering food. The waiter understood that this simply wasn’t for us and was super cool about everything. If you’re looking for the old Whaling Bar, you’ll likely be disappointed. If you’re looking for a chic, loud, lively experience in the heart of La Jollla, then this might be the place for you.

I wish I would have gotten the managers name (female with short brown hair) was absolutely FANTASTIC each time we came here on our month long stay, which was quite often. Drinks were great and found the staff friendly and attentive. Loved the atmosphere. We adored this spot and would highly recommend.

Go see George…he’s the type of bartender that makes a good experience great. Drinks were fire. Well balanced. Atmosphere is top tier and the design is flawless. Intimate setting with all the vibes. Excited to go back and try the food.
