I'm a UCSD alumni and graduated years ago, this froyo place was one I fondly remembered from my college days. Today I attended an event for work, and stopped by to see if there were any flavors I wanted to get so I could enjoy nostalgia for a bit longer. There were limited flavors, likely due to the slowness of the start of Spring break, plus the store was closing soon. I didn't see anything I wanted or I was familiar with. So I asked for a sample cup to try something new just in case. The froyo employee gave me 3, I didn't want to try that many flavors. So I sampled two in the end, the second because I forced myself since it would be a waste to throw all of sample cups unused and because I already touched them, then threw them away. As I walked out, I told him "thank you" but he called out something like YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BUY SOMETHING. So I turned around, and said "I'm sorry?" And he repeats "you were supposed to buy the froyo", to which I asked "I thought they were free samples?" and he frustratingly stated "yes, but you're supposed pay". Still not understanding, I say "oh im sorry, i'll pay right now for the sample cups" and he says "no you were supposed to buy froyo." Then he proceeded to chastise me over how froyo places don't commonly give out free samples, how I wouldn't do this to starbucks if THEY had free samples, etc. It was the kind of lecture rant you knew he had been rehearsing in his head many times to spring on someone. I told him I get it's slow rn bc spring break just started, and prices are higher due to the bad economy rn, but I can't be expected to AGREE to buy something if I don't know if I'll like it, much less if I know I don't want it which was the case here, when froyo establishments are commonly known to let you sample things for free before you buy. Frozen yogurt places often encourage you to try samples for free. That's why I sampled the froyo, and I've never been to a froyo place that doesn't let you try at least one free sample before commiting to a flavor (at a Pinkberry I go to, they even give the pre-portioned free samples to me themselves sometimes). However he continued to talk down to me like I was some child, and thief, with the same exact points once again, but I cut him off with "STOP. I don't care, I'm not interested in this conversation. You're being very rude. GOODBYE" and then heard him say I wasn't welcome back as I finally walked out. This was the most insane conversation I've ever had with an employee, and over froyo no less. I'd get it if the sample cups were a quarter for a few and you paid to sample in general, the economy is rough right now. But he overreacted. I've never been to a froyo place where they actively chastise you openly for not wanting to buy any of their their flavors after sampling like 1 or 2 (in fact when I was an undergrad, I wasnt insulted for that at this froyo place). Maybe they judge you internally for only sampling in the end, but again. It's not like I was towering the samples either? He made me feel like I intentionally set out to ROB him. If that man was the owner, what shame. Truly, it was a place I had fond memories of until today. How strange that he thought I would plan to come back with that policy or attitude. I don't know why he happened to chose me to unleash his pent up frustration. If he was so pressed over samples, he really should openly charge for the sample cups instead expecting you to buy after sampling. I would have been happy to pay for them BEFORE he handed them to me. It would also at least help weed out some of the people who clearly frustrate him daily over only sampling and leaving.

don‘t try the sample!!!the manager said the sample is not free. Even if you don't like the flavors. !!!!If you want to be yelled at by managers in public. Then you can try asking for two samples and leaving.

The manager here forced me to buy their product after I tried their samples when I didn’t like any flavors. He said “ we don’t do free samples, if you try it, you have to buy it”. I came here for many times, it’s my first time that I did not buy, and why you treat your customer like this ?

Taro ice cream is the best flavor here. You don’t need anything else. The price depends on how much you want. Get as much ice cream and topping as you want and then they will weight it. I personally like taro ice cream with no topping.

This is a great place to grab some self-serve yogurt on campus. There's almost always a club doing a fundraiser here for a discount, and a bowl here is pretty cheap! The machines are always clean and have unique flavors, and you can ask for a sample cup to try the yogurt before dispensing it. Inside seating is limited but there's a ton of tables outside to choose from!

Great place to make your own frozen yogurt bowl!! It is 69 cents by weight so you can mix and match as many flavours and toppings you like and then pay by weight! It was a great experience with kids and the variety of flavours was very vast! Highly recommended!
