Carnitas Uruapan Mexican Food

You may already know that Carnitas Urupan has moved from Spring St. in La Mesa to Lemon Grove on Broadway. Well if not, now you know.

When I came in, I initially ordered the chile relleno burrito, but for some reason, the burrito was very oily, so I asked for something else and they agreed. I ended up eating a bacon and eggs breakfast burrito since it was still morning.

The breakfast burrito was very good and large. The eggs were well scrambled and came with a good amount of savory bacon and cheese. I really liked the quality of the flour tortilla. It had a nice buttery texture. It was good eating with the red hot sauces they had.

The gents working the front of the house was nice and apologetic about the first burrito. They offer a good amount of inside seating.

Had 5 rolled tacos here for $8.16. Great deal and the rolled tacos were tasty. Their salsas could use more flavor though.

Sorry shadow of what Carnitas Urapan was in Spring Valley, Lemon Grove, even the one that recently closed in La Mesa. Carnitas was not crispy like they used to have it, tomatoes, onion and cilantro were all chopped. Greeted by a tired server who wasn't enthusiastic or happy about anything, didn't get out full order. Parking was sad 2 spots across from post office. Smaller place, but overall mostly disappointed in the classic carnitas being not as good as before.

Very good food and a good place, a little expensive but to go occasionally it is fine but they should modify their prices so that people are more encouraged to go

Top notch, actually authentic Mexican food! Not texmex! Everything I've had here is superior to any equivalent dish I've had elsewhere, and I've been around a lot. I absolutely love their chilaquiles. They couldn't get better. I do prefer this location a little more over the one on El cajon blvd, but they're both good. It's literally the best Mexican food in San Diego.

The food is OK and the portions are fine, nothing overboard. It's convenient and quick. The space is small but the bathroom is crazy hidden and small. The owners and workers are nice though.

All the food I've had here is delicious, including the carnitas, of course. The prices are some of the best values in town. I moved to San Diego from the Bay Area 2 years ago, but this is probably the best taqueria style place I've found. The tacos are massive. Like, normally, I'm a 5-6 taco guy, but 3 tacos from Urupan leave me absolutely stuffed for ~$10. The staff is cool, the location is convenient, what's not to love?

I ordered what was supposed to be 1lb of carnitas.. it was definitely less & since i ordered through DoorDash I couldn’t return it .. the carnitas were okay overall.. lacked flavor but added some salt/lime/salsa and that made them okay.. you get about 5 tortillas which is crazy considering you’re ordering a 1lb of meat. I also decided to order the 8oz guac and it was disgusting! To say the least. I don’t know if it was old or what but it had this nasty rancid/bitter taste to it & unfortunately i could not spruce it up due the powerful awful taste it had. Would not recommend and definitely won’t be returning.. i wanted to try due to all the good reviews but it was a disappointment & a waste of money

Very good food, we ordered the dinner for two (Maciza) and loved it! The cashier was also extremely nice and welcoming. We have paid a lot more someone else for less quality. Definitely will be coming back!

I bought chicharrón tacos and they tasted like pure old oil, really bad, I better threw them away
