The espresso was insanely sweet, rich, and ready almost before I finished asking for it. They also had vegan churro donuts that day.I don't know what the deal is with "Jennifer K" (reviewer below) but the baristas who were there when I went in were very kind and attentive.

This place is the reason I get out of bed. Their coffee is great, arguably the best in San Diego. They have fun breakfast items from ever-changing flavors of iced donuts to hot breakfast sandwiches and good bagels with the only vegan cream cheese I’ve ever had that tastes good. But the best part of dark horse la Mesa is their staff. They make my morning. They know my drink , they get me in my way so I’m not stressed about getting to work on time because I’ve stopped for coffee . They’re funny, caring , personable and make damn good lattes . That’s why I am there ever single morning.

I’ve been to their other locations and they are way better. Don’t even waste your time coming to this location because the coffee is worse (they burnt the beans on my girlfriend’s coffee), the service is worse (weird vibe and attitude from the employees), man even the food is worse (strawberries were brown & soggy). Go to a different location.

My favorite espresso drink place in La Mesa. Upper tier coffee. Much better than Starbucks. To go setting.

During our visit on Sunday morning, the staff's unfriendly demeanor was quite evident. Their lack of initiative to assist or inquire about our needs set a disappointing tone. When I inquired about espresso beans, the response lacked enthusiasm. They pointed vaguely, indicating the location behind us, and casually mentioned that any beans could be used for espresso. Seeking clarification on dark beans, I was simply directed to those labeled "dark." Well okay then. I was looking for a nice suggestion maybe a little conversation. The overall experience left much to be desired, highlighting potential areas for management to focus on improving customer service and communication strategies.

I'm sure this place caters a lot to people in a positive way. I stopped in for a simple cup of coffee being I simply like coffee itself. The drip coffee I had was burnt, old and poorly over roasted. If you are looking for a fine we'll roasted cup of coffee, this is not the place in any manner. It was like 11am old 7/11 coffee, Luke warm.

I've been a fan of Dark Horse since their inception. They also provide a quality cappuccino, cortado, and Americano, my usual suspect when I visit a location. They have rotated their baked goods over the years from provider to provider, but when they added the artisan doughnuts, that was a winning move.Unfortunately, they did not have any doughnuts when I visited this location on Thanksgiving morningService was friendly.

Feels like a kind of random location, but great if you're one of the people that lives in the adjacent apartments! They have about three dedicated stalls for Dark Horse patrons.I am a big matcha latte drinker and my only gripe is that their matcha comes pre-mixed with sugar, so you can't get it unsweetened. It does taste absolutely delicious, but that's probably thanks to all the sugar in it. If you're wanting to enjoy a pastry, come early, as they are usually sold out by noon. Love having a local option to frequent instead of Starbucks, so recommend stopping in here instead!
