The cheese danish was my fave but since I've discovered monkey bread I cannot stop eating it! Every friend of mine I've introduced Split to, vegan or not, has always enjoyed them w fervor. Love that you can find them in most coffee shops in SD! I get mine from Ocean Beach Coffee & Plants for $5 each. They're more expensive at Selva. Updated from previous review on 2025-11-09

Not edible.

One bite and straight to the dumpster!
I've been vegan for 10 years and I cannot recall a food experience that was this bad!
I sat with this since Monday morning, and I took 2 days to decide whether or not to express my sorrow and regret of trying out Splithouse bakery for the first time.
I used to love this bakery, but it's really frustrating that they no longer offer counter service. Now you have to order everything in advance, which completely takes away the spontaneity and joy of stopping in for a fresh treat. Sometimes I just want to see what's available and grab something on the spot, like a real bakery experience. The new system feels impersonal and inconvenient, especially for regular customers who miss the old charm.
Had bad customer service , a girl with dark hair , I used to love coming here because I’m vegan.. and the pastries were cute looking. Now that it’s been more than twice it’s hard to support this business.
I’ve ordered online , and so has all my family members, friends, and we have all gotten the same experience when picking up our orders.. I’ve gone to this bakery since it first was open and have always supported it. Not sure why your response is so unprofessional. I’m not mistaken on the bakery .
I love their pastries — especially the spinach one — but the ordering system is a mess. They used to have a walk-up window (simple and normal), but now it’s pre-order only.
Craving something? Too bad — you should’ve planned that 2 days ago. Missed the pre-order? Now you have to hunt down a café partner on their site and cold-call them to see if they have it. Not exactly convenient. Great product, frustrating experience.
THERE IS NO STORE FRONT, NO COUNTER ORDERS, AND NO PHONE NUMBER TO CALL AND CLARIFY! They need to make this clear before people drive here. However, their parties are good.
I found it on Google Maps, checked it out online and drove right to it. Iwalked over towards the food court, found the location but there was no entrance because it's locked and only available for online orders, ahead of time! Absolutely no drop-ins, to buy anything. Well that information could have been useful, ahead of time, on the website....
GREAT pastries, but please add business hours on Google! Website lists 6a-6p for pre-orders in one section, and 8a-6p in another section.. we showed up before 8a and the window was closed. Waited until 8:10, still no one..
I got chefs selection (10 items). Can’t wait to try ^q^
Split Bakehouse has amazing baked goods, but pretty awful communication about their operation and hours. To save you the three separate trips I made to the Grossmont location; they no longer have a counter here. If you want any baked goods you have to order online, as this location has changed to online order pick-up online.

I had to pre-order and pick up. The location isn’t very convenient. But definitely worth checking out!
We love that we can get anything here, most everything we've gotten has been quite tasty!
The largest variety of vegan baked goods we've ever seen! We ended up getting a selection and each item was incredible. Can't wait to be back in SD mostly to visit this bakery again!
Love the sweet bread the fave is the Ube concha and the monkey bread and the danishes yummy definitely recommend !
