Food is great, staff is exceedingly friendly, outdoor seating ambience is delightful...this is our go-to spot for breakfast.

The owner was extremely rude and condescending when informing us they were reservation only for brunch. Put a sign up on the door so that people know, if you can't bother to be courteous when potential patrons are inquiring about sitting down. Not worth putting up with their negativity on a weekend morning.

We went for brunch and relied on our waiter. He had great suggestions. The food was very tasty, not a huge amount which was perfect. I regret that I did not leave a bigger tip - I made a mistake. He was great.

Well I tried. I showed up on a Sunday to eat there and was met with a rude man who threw his hands up and said "we are reservation only and there's nothing I can do." I nicely mentioned to him that I have eaten there twice recently without a reservation and was about to ask if things changed, but he interrupted me and said they have had that rule since March 2021. I have been there twice since March 2021 on the weekend without a reservation. He said again that they only take reservations through phone or Opentable and said there is nothing they can do at the moment. Why not just ask nicely if I have the Opentable app or if I would like to call in? Also, there are no signs anywhere that mention they only take reservations. It now says that on their website, but not everyone checks a website before they eat somewhere. Really sad because I have had enjoyable times there but with rude customer service, it's not a place I want to go back to. I know they dont care but I felt the need to mention this because it seems, after reading these reviews, that they need to do better at talking to customers.

Had a very nice Sunday brunch. The old fashioned country ambiance was very comfortable and the food was good. We wished the oatmeal had a little salt and the champagne bottle had come to the table but those were minor notes. Overall would recommend and return.

I love coming to American Kitchen!! The food is consistently very delicious and their menu has so many tasty options to choose from. My favorite is Jose's fried chicken sandwich but I could go on and on about the French toast, Cobb salad, and so many other menu items. Their drinks & coffee are always very good as well. The staff is very friendly and whether it's Victor, Amy, or my favorite server Kevin, American Kitchen always takes care of you and makes you feel welcomed. They have a great outdoor seating area which only adds to the immaculate vibes. I love making the trip from San Francisco to Lafayette to eat here because the food is so good and the people are so great.

There were three of us and we all ordered eggs bebedict. All three breakfasts were cold. Bathroom and indoor sitting area floors were dirty. Service was a little slow. Cute place, but not sure we'll return.

I will keep it short and simple. Rude owner and bad food. The owners have no hospitality and we were left with a slightly ignorant comment. Leaving a photo for reference.

Just ate outdoors this afternoon and both our dishes were delicious. Also had a glass of their fresh lemonade to wash it all down. The service was great and the vibe was chill. We will definitely be frequent customers in the future.

American Kitchen is a little hidden gem amongst the larger Lafayette eateries. Delicious breakfast with amazing home made coffee cake and fresh made juices on site. We always grab the pancakes or the huevos rancheros. The eggs are cooked fresh and are super fluffy. Highly recommend.

Nice outdoor seating. Stuffed French toast was absolutely delicious. Eggs Benedict not so great- egg yolks were over cooked (hard boiled) and little to no hollandaise sauce...very dry and we ordered three different styles of Benedict and none were prepared properly. Bummer ...

Owner was super rude when we arrived. Despite having a reservation for outdoor seating, he told us a table inside was available, nothing outside. There was 1 table not seated outside he said was spoken for by someone who did not have a reservation. He did not seem interested in solving the issue. He did not offer an explanation, or even an apology. And instead told us we could wait for another table to become available. Long story short, this restaurant doesn't seem to honor reservations even when made well in advance. Will not be returning to this restaurant.

Lovely locally owned American restaurant in a cute Victorian cottage. Food was excellent, generous servings and reasonably priced. Definitely will return individually and with our group.

Went for breakfast on Sunday morning. Very nice seating area outside if you don't want to sit inside. Staff is very friendly and the food was excellent. Had an omelette, roasted potatoes and a Cappuccino. Would definitely recommend this place.
