Love the location,.
But they ran out of food too early.

Top notch Texas BBQ, had the brisket, pulled pork, spare ribs, pit beans and a banana pudding. All 5 stars. Meat was juicy and flavorful, ribs falling off the bone, the beans were a really great al dente texture. Yes there is a line, it’s a brand new spot from a well known pit master - there should be a line. Go early if you want something specific!

Aggressively unexceptional bbq. What drops my rating to a two are the incredibly long wait times and outrageously high prices! It’s hard to find good BBQ here in the Bay Area, but we do not need to subject ourselves to this mediocrity. There is better bbq that won’t absolutely drain your wallet out there. This is not it.

Honestly not impressed, even by California standards the BBQ is not that good. The brisket seems like it was cooked at too high of a temperature but for not enough time. The outer barking was too dried and chewy while the inside fat wasn't rendered properly. Whatever rub they use has far too much salt but their BBQ sauce on the table is just a standard overly sugared syrup.
The 'hot links' must be defined as something other than what I've had elsewhere because it was just the cheddar sausage with a hint of jalapeno, that's not a hot link.
The pulled pork was okay, but again had too many chunks that were dried out.
The slaw is a dill mayo base and generally okay.
Service at around 4:30pm on a Friday, despite almost no line, was terrible. Half of the items were 'sold out' but then they had more (mostly the sides) by the time we left. Took a good 15+ minutes after giving our order to actually getting our food because of so much confusion by the staff.
Only good part was the price. 1/2 lbs brisket, 1/4 lb pulled pork, hot link, and slaw was ~$25.
This generally lines up with all of my friends experience with their prior Oakland location, so I guess I shouldn't have been so disappointed.

The brisket is the best I've ever had I'm using a spoon to cut it and eat it!!
The mac and cheese are amazing they have a background hint of garlic and the beans are the second best I've ever had. The pulled pork is good too 👍
Took me over 30 minutes to get through the line.. The counter guy cutting the meat is great but he needs an assistant to prep stuff for him..
Slow service but AMAZING food 😍😍🤤

this place is a true gem could not tell it was their only second day there was a consistent line while team attentive and ready to serve the guest. I couldn’t ask for a better atmosphere music going a mix of everyone in the small town i’m new here and i’ll definitely be making this my go to reset spot as a true foodie. Let’s just say I used a plastic fork the whole time. Sides were nice and homely not too overpowering in any areas of the palate. Some places go overboard with the sides keep it simple and consistent you win everytime!

Matt opened up another horn bbq location, this time in Lafayette. If you're new to horn I personally think it's the best bbq in the bay area. Its on par with central texas (albiet with california prices). If you come here during dinner or prime lunch times plan on putting enough money into the parking meter as the wait can be a while. Service is extremely good, I rated it 4 stars mainly due to the wait but the staff are all stars. I got some burnt ends, brisket, hot link, pit beans and the Mac and cheese. Super excited about this new addition to Lamorinda.
