God-tier french butter croissants, quiches, and canneles de Bordeaux
Helpful staff that keep the line moving
Hard to believe the Bay Area's best croissants are not in Berkeley, Albany or San Francisco but are in fact behind the counter of a tiny bakery in Lafayette.
Go figure!

Cannoli was okay and so was the fruit tart, but I went toward the end of the day so maybe it wasn’t the freshest. Nice staff and overall atmosphere.

They don't make scones & too small a place. Coffee was good though.

BEST PASTRIES EVER! French butter croissants, monkey bites (trust me!!!), Kouign amann, morning bun with a hint of orange. And the staff is friendly too. We’ve tried other local bakeries but none compare. Get there when they open for the best selection and weekdays are a faster than the weekend. Magnifique🤩

Step into La Châtaigne, where pastries transcend mere confections to become edible works of art. Their creations are exquisite and sublime, each bite revealing a symmetry of taste layered in perfection. If Mozart were a pastry chef, his croissants would be his concerto - the delicate, butter-laden layers unfold like musical movements, each crisp, golden sheet whispering sweet harmonies. The flaky exterior shatters with a gentle touch, giving way to a tender, honeycomb interior that seems to dance on the tongue. These masterpieces aren't just baked; they're composed, with the same precision and passion that a virtuoso brings to the concert hall. Like a perfect cadence, each pastry resolves in a moment of pure gastronomic bliss.

Amazing! French butter croissants were my favorite. Not a lot of seating but people come and go so tables open quick. We loved the service and delicious pastries and coffee.

Staff is very nice. Got two different chocolate croissants. Dough is nice but hardly any chocolate. More like plain than chocolate croissants.

I spend literally hundreds of $$$ at this shop. What was news to me today is that they had no bags, but the pastry box is a $1/each. I wish they made money on their awesome pastries instead. So bring your own bag not to get overcharged.

This is the perfect example of what a bakery should be, as a citizen of the world who has resided in multiple countries, I can solidly state that the quality of La Châtaigne competes with most bakeries in France and that at a customer friendly price. I am always happy after eating here.

I’ve been here too late. I couldn't try croissant. I will be back next time earlier 😉

Weeks later, when I revisited the place, I finally tried the almond croissant. It was so delicious!
