Vino's is a hidden little gem! My linguini was delicious, the owner Castro reminds me of that grumpy Grandpa we all have, but whose really a softy. He was dancing & playing the piano! It was truly a cool & intimate experience. I will definitely be back!

Castro, the owner is magnificent!!! He runs the whole show--taking food and drinks orders, delivering and providing a little musical entertainment throughout your visit. I highly recommend--it is so much FUN!!!

If you want authenticity then this is the place! Leave the pretentious attitude at home, if you want to be served up food from the gods. This man knows what you want, more than you do yourself. Specials? So fresh they are on an index card. Honestly I've never met a nicer and more giving man. But if he is busy he will turn you away. That's called integrity. Please visit and know you are helping a wonderful colorful, chef, server, entertainer, and friend.

Fun night and great food! Owner was so sweet and funny. The menu is small, but I like that~too many options make me crazy. We hadn't been to Vino in quite a while, and are now wondering why. A must try if you are in Lafayette!! We will be back sooner this time!

Three of us dined at this little Lafayette gem on a Thursday night. My spouse had introduced herself to the owner the week prior when we walked by the closed restaurant. He encouraged us to come to dinner the following week when his special was paella. Inviting a friend, we were the first patrons to arrive upon opening at 5PM. We liked the ambiance… a nice, warm, intimate space with about seven tables…even a piano! The 86-year-old owner was quite convivial and shared a bit of his extensive restaurant experience. As we ate our green salads with a glass of red wine (red/white seemed to be the only alcohol served) he played various operatic pieces on the piano. We all loved the paella…a flavorful combination of clams, mussels, shrimp, calamari, chicken, sausage on a bed of saffron rice. It was a large serving and all three of us took about half of it home. We finished off with a shared slice of chocolate cake…ganache covered with a taste off rum. Definitely will go again! There was a menu and an index card listing three nightly specials although paella wasn’t listed on the card…sea bass, petrale sole, and one other. I’d suggest calling the night before you want to go to check out the specials and reserve a table. I also believe it is a cash only restaurant.

I don't want to share a review about this place because I don't want anyone to find out about it... but here I am. So great. Castro the owner is hilarious and talented at piano. Pay in cash. Tips have to be in cash. Food is great, ambiance is authentic.

The food was average and the owner Castro was quite humorous. We went there because it seemed like a fun traditional Italian restaurant run by a small business person. We arrived and Castro greeted us with a few jokes. He asked if we had cash because "he doesn't want to give his money to this illegitimate government." We ordered and he served us, played a few tunes on the piano. He then went into a rant about how he had facts that this communist (Biden) is illegitimate and won an illegal election. He said he had facts. How can a self-proclaimed patriot accept only cash so he doesn't pay his share of taxes? We will never go here again and will talk our friends out of giving him any business.

We have patronized this restaurant for years and our table is always set with a bottle of wine. Castro tells us that we do not need to order and our dinner is being prepared for us. Everytime we visit we were served the same mediocre fish entree. On this visit I asked to see the menu since I wanted to order something different. Castro said that he was only serving fish and chicken marsala. So we were served the same entree, low quality fish that did not appear or taste fresh. Looking around the very small restaurant, it appeared that we were the only table served fish and that no-one was having chicken marsala. A young couple arrived without reservations, were promptly seated at the table next to us, and served cioppiono. As we paid our bill, I asked Castro how this couple was served cioppiono, since he told us we could only have fish or chicken marsala. He said " They are from the Mexican Consulate and are important," (Based on their attire and demeanor and my knowledge of Mexico, that could not have been true) I said "Obviously we are not important to you" and we walked out never to return. I consider Castro's lies and game playing unethical and I will caution my senior friends to go elsewhere.

Put Vino, Lafayette on your to do list. I am so happy to see Castro and Vino survive the shut down. It wasn't easy for him. We are long time patrons and had not visited since pre covid. I think our dinner was better than ever! It was a special 95th birthday and Castro's food was delicious. I usually have the salmon which is always good - but ordered the Petrale which was amazing. Others had his famous Cioppino. Topped off by Tiramisu. Side dishes of fresh perfectly cooked vegetable and a potato dish. You cannot beat the value for your entree. Castro also plays the piano. Fun is always had by all. His menu is slightly shorter that the one online. All the seafood is there but not the steak right now. If he adds his eggplant back on the menu order it. Please go, enjoy and support Vino.
