Service is always on point and they have a very well rounded menu with very fresh sushi options with both creative rolls and traditional nigiri and equally delicious Robatayaki items- the wagyu beef was my favorite. Ambience is lively and interior is very nicely designed. Will definitely be back soon to try the rest of the menu!

Oto is our favorite restaurant in Laguna Beach. Why? From the moment one arrives, the experience is amazing. The staff are professional yet warm and friendly. The gluten free kitchen makes this restaurant perfect for our family, which includes several people with celiac. The rolls are creative and fresh with the perfect ratio of fish to rice. The tempura is crisp and delicious. The skewers are perfectly charred umami bites: The sake selection is excellent. The atmosphere is comfortable and tasteful. What's not to love? We often come early to enjoy happy hour on the patio but any time at Oto is a great time.

Our 8-year-old absolutely loved the Chicken Karaage - crispy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. It’s not always easy to find something that truly excites our Elijah, but this was a big win.
My wife really appreciated the gluten-free menu options, which made ordering completely stress-free. She had the Snow Crab hand roll, and it was fresh, light, and absolutely delicious.
I ordered the Snow Crab sushi and Sea Bream sushi, and both were outstanding — incredibly fresh, beautifully prepared, and full of flavor.
A special thank you to Wes, our waiter, who truly elevated the entire experience. He was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, and he made us feel genuinely welcome from start to finish. Service like his makes all the difference.

Oto sushi checks all the boxes- delicious sushi, great atmosphere, exceptional service! We had the best Valentines Day lunch on the patio and will be coming back soon for dinner. The ember kissed albacore was my favorite, it was fresh and presented beautifully on the dish. Our lovely server was energetic and kind. The only issue was a man and woman seated nearby that were foul mouthed diners, once they left the rest us cheered and enjoyed lunch in peace. Pro Tip : Dont ruin other peoples lunch time because you're a rude complainer. Negativity isnt welcomed in Laguna.

If I could give negative stars, I would. Our experience at Oto Sushi was beyond unacceptable and completely ruined our Valentine’s Day.
From the start, everything went wrong. We never received the drinks we ordered. The edamame came out undercooked. The seaweed salad was repulsive. When we politely asked for more soy sauce, the waitress was openly rude and dismissive. Then the miso soup arrived COLD and the tofu wasn’t cooked. We sent it back, assuming it was a simple mistake. The replacement came out cold AGAIN.
Instead of just heating the soup like we asked, the owner came over and offered me TEA as if that somehow made up for cold soup. I told her that tea is not a substitute for miso soup — which apparently offended her. That’s when things took a turn for the worse.
Rather than apologizing or attempting to resolve anything, she became flustered, defensive, and then told us to LEAVE. Yes — she kicked us out in the middle of our meal simply because we expressed dissatisfaction with rude service and cold food.
They weren’t even busy. There was absolutely no excuse for this level of incompetence.
The owner has zero customer service skills and a serious attitude problem. If you can’t handle basic feedback without throwing customers out, you shouldn’t be running a restaurant. We came to celebrate Valentine’s Day and left feeling disrespected, embarrassed, and furious.
This place didn’t just disappoint — it actively destroyed what was supposed to be a special day. Horrible service, careless food handling, rude staff, and an owner who clearly doesn’t know how to run a business.
Avoid at all costs. Never again.
