Condescending staff, incorrect legal claims, and deeply unprofessional management.

We visited as a family, and our 30-year-old daughter ordered a non-alcoholic beer. She was asked for ID but only had a digital version available, which the restaurant declined to accept. While we respect a restaurant’s right to enforce its own policies, the way this was communicated from the outset was condescending and unnecessary.

The waitress (Mariah) explained the situation in a patronizing manner, as though we did not understand a basic concept, immediately setting a negative tone. When we asked to speak with a manager for clarification, that same dismissive tone continued. Despite this, we chose to stay and ordered appetizers in an effort to move past the interaction.

Afterward, we reviewed California ABC guidance to understand whether ID is legally required for beverages under 0.5% ABV. When we calmly returned to ask whether this was a matter of house policy versus a legal requirement, the manager, Tommy (or whatever is name was - bald arrogant unfit to be a manager), continued to insist incorrectly that California law and ABC regulations require ID in this scenario. During this interaction, he addressed me as “hey dude,” which was unprofessional, dismissive, and escalated an already uncomfortable situation.

The repeated insistence on inaccurate legal claims, combined with the consistently disrespectful tone from both staff and management, made the experience unpleasant enough that we ended our meal early and left.

To be clear, this review is not about being denied a non-alcoholic beer. It is about staff confidently presenting incorrect legal information and doing so in a manner that lacked basic professionalism and respect. As people of color, we are particularly sensitive to how tone, assumptions, and power dynamics manifest in customer interactions, and this experience raised serious concerns on that front.

This will unequivocally be our last visit. For a restaurant that struggles to handle such a simple and common scenario with accuracy and respect, this experience was unacceptable. We strongly recommend that people of color avoid this establishment.

Management should seriously reassess staff training, not only regarding ABC regulations, but also the critical distinction between law and house policy, and how to communicate both clearly and respectfully to patrons

Pretty good place, went here for lunch and got a hamburger. It was very good, just a little too charred smelling, other than that, it was delicious (got a free lollipop to go:D)
The inside of the restaurant is pretty huge and the outside dining area is pretty and it’s quiet outside. The service was good and we got a table immediately since there’s so many tables in the place.

The First Street Alehouse is one of downtown Livermore’s most reliable go‑to spots — the kind of place where you can roll in for a casual lunch, catch a game, or grab a beer with friends and know exactly what kind of good time you’re getting. The vibe is classic Livermore: relaxed, friendly, and buzzing just enough to feel alive without being overwhelming.

Phenomenal burgers and excellent service are what make this quaint establishment a standout. If you're interested in enjoying some of the freshest food in Livermore, I'd make this restaurant a recommendation. Only complaint is the noise level.

This place is so much bigger on the inside than how it looks on the outside. There is plenty of tables and bar room for large parties. They don't serve hard alcohol, just beer, wine, and seltzers. I really enjoyed their apricot beer. Not sweet, just a hint of apricot. We ordered the onion rings and wings. The onion rings were really good and the wings had lots of meat. We also ordered the garden burger with pesto and brie. So good. Also the garden burger with mushroom and Swiss, equally good! The whole experience was beyond expectation.

Overall, it is a great place; however, they could have had a greater variety of beer selection.

Came by here about a week ago with a guy I guess who comes here regularly. It's his spot 😅 I was recommended I think it was a cilantro burger? Didn't care for it much, but loved the atmosphere and the onion rings. Will have to try a different burger next time. The burger itself was juicy.

We had dinner here, portions are generous, the beer selection quite nice. We had burgers and fries: the chicken burger was crispy and juicy, the beef burger with the special patty and smoked bacon simply amazing, amd the fries also crispy and tasty. Great service and atmosphere, totally recommend!
