I love going to Alder & Sage. It’s such a beautiful restaurant that was thoughtfully designed to include a large outdoor space with fire pits, coffee bar, and indoor seating area with views of the kitchen.

I try to come during the weekdays when they are less busy. Sometimes I need to work in the area and they have high communal tables for people that need to use their laptops and offer free WiFi.

I love to order the Jidori chicken wraps, their omelette specials, and whatever version of breakfast hash they have on the menu. The last one I tried was a vegan soyrizo hash and it was so filling and flavorful. I love to also get their grain bowls and add two eggs for a very satisfying meal. Their menu is seasonal and they use the freshest ingredients and produce. They also have great coffee drinks too and thankfully decaf versions of their espresso drinks.

I finally made it out to the Sunset Social Hour with my neighbors. It was a Thursday evening and they had live jazz music. The anchovy toast was incredible and we ordered another one since it was so good. All of us tried the shrimp and grits which were amazing and we all cleaned our bowls. We shared the basque cheesecake for dessert and it was enough for 3 people. Afterwards we relaxed by the fire pits and enjoyed the wonderful evening.

Really enjoyed the place. Nice ambiance, quite cozy and warm! Friendly service with great eats! That Breakfast Sandwich was everything 😋 🙌 😍

The sauce for the potatoes was 🔥! The drinks are inviting and quite interesting. It's an entire experience and the prices aren't outrageous!

I absolutely loved this place! The service was great—my server (I forgot their name) and the guy with the blonde streak in his hair were super friendly and accommodating. Best breakfast I’ve had in a long time.

It’s really disappointing to experience moments where you can feel the difference in how people are treated the moment they walk through the door. From the energy, to the lack of a greeting, to how certain customers are welcomed while others are not — it speaks volumes.

What stood out to me even more was how I was treated when I brought my dog, who is an emotional support animal. Instead of being met with the same understanding and kindness that I’ve seen shown to others with their dogs, I was treated differently. That type of inconsistency is hard to ignore.

Experiences like this are disheartening because they remind us that unfair treatment, whether rooted in race, bias, or simple disregard, is still present in our own communities. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and kindness, no matter who they are or what they look like.

For me, this was enough to decide not to return. I hope this reflection can serve as a reminder that the way we treat people matters — and that small actions can leave lasting impacts.

GREAT FOOD & VIBES, BAD SERVER EXPERIENCE

I booked a table for 14 for my birthday on a Sunday afternoon and they seated us in the large bench table outside, perfect setting.

We unfortunately had a bad experience with our server Cole, whose attitude made one of my guests feel unwelcome and embarrassed when she asked for a cup of ice. We also asked him to take a photo of our party outside the restaurant after we had paid, but he said he had to immediately clear our table when he could’ve spared a minute or two. I love this restaurant and the food and the vibes and I had great service the last time I was here, which is why I was so taken aback by my experience with this server. It was a pretty busy day so I understand the stress and hustle of catering to a 14 person table, but I feel like our experience was less than satisfactory because of these moments.

I will still be returning because the food & coffee were very good— their signature seasonal drinks were amazing as always, the mazapán latte and guava cloud iced tea were perfect summer drinks. I also really liked the chicken wraps, portion size was perfect and everything was fresh.

Terrible service. Saw there was an oyster pop up happening at Alder & Sage and was so excited to visit. Loquat Oysters was 10/10 amazing food & service. We were approached by the restaurant server once and only had a chance to order a sparkling water. That's it. The server left mid conversation as my friend attempted to place her order. She was planning on ordering the burrata caprese but it wasn't meant to be. She requested water which she never received. Server left so quickly after dropping off my sparkling water we didn't get a chance to ask about her water. We saw they were busy and figured she would stop by after but never did. I ended up splitting my sparkling water with my friend. Took a while to wave someone down and we assume we waved down a busser because she said she's not a server but would gladly help us with paying our tab of 1 sparkling water. In the end, don't think I got my exact change back but whatever. Will not be returning.

It was a cute place with good food and drink choices. A little on the pricey side but a great breakfast/brunch stop with fast service and very friendly people offering service.

Excellent service & chill vibe. I had the chilaquiles; the sauce was well balanced. They could have served more bread with the orders that included toast. My friend had toast with her butter.

Had a fantastic brunch with friends here. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients and the skill of those in the kitchen. There wasnt a crumb left on my plate!

Second time going. Have had the chicken meatballs, burrata, cucumber salad, grilled veggies, pate plate and the pommes frites (requested without garlic). All very tasty and well presented. Bread sourced from Hay Bros. bakery, best baguette in Long Beach. Be sure and order a little extra. All washed down with a couple of gin and tonics. Alder and Sage is one of the easiest, most relaxing dining spots in town. The small plates at the week-ending popups really enrich the food offerings.

The lamb chops were cooked just right.

Very very cute place, great for taking photos, but is extremely popular with very long wait times. The coffee was okay, I didn’t particularly love it. The food was alright, nothing too special.

Kind of on the pricier side, and when I initially looked at the menu, I was skeptical. But it was the best breakfast I might have ever had. My friend who was with me also said it was the best breakfast that they ever had. YUM. The outdoor seating area is nice and the service was great. veg vegan options available too
