Losing Cafe Piccolo from my gastronomic repertoire is almost unthinkable. I've been coming here since the mid-80's and knew Moe, the owner, quite well, a true gentleman. Friends visiting from Europe raved about the food and the charming, intimate atmosphere. Really heartbroken that it's closed now. Farewell to a Long Beach institution, and thank you for countless happy memories.

This was my favorite place to eat in LongBeach. I am so sad they closed. My friends and I have so many great memories there. I will miss the minestrone, gnocchi and mushroom pasta. Nothing on Long Beach compares to the ambiance and food.

So many great memories there over so many years. We're so sad it's closed. Wish they'd write a book w some recipes and stories. It was AMAZING!

What a shame this gem of a restaurant was another casualty to the pandemic. My wife and I loved celebrating valentines, birthdays, and anniversaries here. The food was always amazing and our favorite waiter was always so kind and had such a warm smile. You will be missed.

Café Piccolo, outwardly, is the kInd of stereotypical Euro decorated restaurant many American tourists yearn for in their "If it's Tuesday, it must be Belgium" packaged tour. Yet Piccolo does have a cozy, home grown, organic charm with greenery at every window, waterfall, outdoor patio that complements the dark romantic indoor dining room. Nori was our friendly yet busy waitress. The staff here is good at making sure water glasses, bread, etc. are looked after. Btw, the oven warm bread came out fragrant w/ sweet, inviting yeastiness. 1) Dusted Spicy Scallops: Plump, big Japanese Hokkaidō scallops that had a sweet sea minerality & deep velvety, delicate creamy texture. Sprinkled w/ Cayenne, then seared like blackened redfish à la Paul Prudhomme and not overcooked served w/ sautéed red cabbage in white wine garlic sauce. There is a slow burn from the chiles w/ agrodolce/sweet-sour from the white wine reduction. A bit too oily unctuousness created a heavy slick mouthfeel that detracted from the high quality scallops. Also the plating was a jumble of limp red cabbage dumped over the 4 competently executed scallops which didn't make for great eye appeal. 2) Zinfandel Lamb... Good, slightly gamey, meaty Lamb loin that had a pleasant chaw sautéed in shallots, cream & Zinfandel wine reduction. Nice interplay of the lightly acidic, fruity cream sauce to the faint gaminess of the lamb. Linguine long pasta seemed dressed in light olive oil & dried parsley. I dressed the linguine w/ the creamy sauce to give it more of a rich savory flavour. Medley of sautéed carrots, green beans, onions rounded out the main course. Sprinkling of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese by the waitress was a nice added touch. 3) Coppa Mascarpone: Almost like Hershey's chocolate syrup, mousse like Mascarpone cream, Amaretto cookie crumbs layered like a parfait. Less use of chocolate syrup could have let the the delicate almond flavour of the Amaretto cookies come through, but overall a good end to the meal. Some minor culinary faux pas, but the food at Café Piccolo is, on the whole, more than acceptable. Service is aware and capable. The ambiance & décor as well as a well planted garden certainly makes it arguably the best restaurant along the eastern stretch of Broadway. 4 stars.

I've got to brag about this place because my wife and I went to dinner here awhile back and it was outstanding. To begin, the atmosphere here is beautiful, it's a very elegant style with lots of details that really make your experience even more enjoyable. Our server was superbly knowledgeable about the menu and had a great sense of humor. I wish I could remember her name but it's been a little while and I'm already bad enough at remembering things from 5 minutes ago! The Cabernet we ordered was perfect and not at all too oaky. For dinner I had the scrumptious Linguine with Shrimp and Scallops and was really impressed with the serving size. I mean I had tons to take home with me for leftovers the next day. The wife ordered chicken Marsala and was very pleased with perfectly grilled taste of the chicken. Unfortunately we were too stuffed to even contemplate dessert but I am certain that it would have been just as amazing as the rest of the meal and overall dining experience!

WOW! Such a cute Italian restaurant in Long Beach. From the moment I walked in, I loved the place. The atmosphere is very romantic with the lights on underside of umbrellas above tables, greenery visible through large glass doors, and fire pit in middle of seating area. The great impression continued when the food was brought out. The creamy minestrone was incredible and the linguine with shrimp entree was delicious. I cannot wait to visit again!

Have never been there and tried for the first time during the pandemic. We dined in the first week the restaurant opened up. We may give it a go after things return to normal. The food was very mediocre /borderline bad. We ordered what was deemed most popular and most liked on the menu. The seafood pasta with lobster sauce was very runny pink sauce. It's almost like they dumped pasta into the lobster soup that they had. Must say, Pasta cooked to perfection - al Dante the seafood and lobster sauce were a bit disappointing. Also basic spaghetti and meatball was a bit disappointing as well. The meatball were dry but the pasta and tomato sauce were very delicious. I like my red sauce on a dryer side.Must say they had skeleton crew. One server covering 5 -6 tables. The server was very good and hospitable. She was pleasant and kept the spirit up during the difficult time.
