Chez Bacchus is owned and operated by John Hansen, the only advanced sommelier in Long Beach, and you can feel his knowledge in every part of the experience. The staff is sharp, welcoming, and trained at a very high level. Dinner service is my favorite. The food, wine, and timing are always on point. Tea time is a great bonus and something you do not see often in this area.

If you want great service, great food, and a true wine focused spot, this is the place to go.

Wow! Not only is the food some of the best in Long Beach, the wine list is so thoughtful and interesting. Try it for dinner, try the bar specials, try the tea service. Don’t miss out on this one.

Met my daughter here to celebrate her birthday. It was underwhelming. The cheese plate was unimpressive. The wine menu was very limited. We ordered salads and eggplant parm that never arrived. We left hungry and disappointed. I get it was a busy night, but they passed by our table many times and could have let us know what was going on with our order.

I cannot rave enough about this place! The service, cocktails, and food brought us so much joy. The octopus was tender, the scallops perfectly cooked, and the steak was absolute perfection. We’ve experienced everything from hole-in-the-wall gems to Michelin-starred restaurants, so we don’t gush easily, but this place was the exception. We’ve already recommended it to all our friends.
One tip: we didn’t realize they offered valet, so we parked on the street, and the neighborhood felt a bit sketchy at night. I’d definitely recommend using valet.

We did the Tea service here and it was great. Food was delicious. We loved the loose leaf tea selection. The service was top notch! Definitely will be going back.

I went there with my friend for the high team. To start they required a $55 dollar reservation, that it was supposed to be accredited to the final bill. The place is nice, and the food was okay. If you are going for high tea, rest assure nothing is farm to table. When the bill came they did not deduct the $55, to which we had a receipt, nor they notify anything related to it. So we proceed and mention it to our server and they mentioned it will be refunded. We asked for a manager to which their response was ‘they are working from home.’ Then the “owner” came to say they had an issue in the system and we should get refunded by Monday. It has been more than a week and no refund has been issued. Even when we have called to follow up. Be caution when checking the bill, especially, if you made a reservation that required money upfront.

John was amazing. Food was amazing. Great vibes and the owner came by to check in. Food across the board was delicious (steak frites, duck, bread and garlic app, etc), but the meal finished with a truly bussin espresso martini

We had a great time!

All our dishes were well-executed and perfectly cooked: the octopus, wagyu tartare, lamb neck, and scallops were standouts, and the cocktails and wine were all on point - there’s a great range of libations for the fan of classics and “fun” cocktails alike - and the bartender was super accommodating in dialing in custom drinks to our preference. The wine list is great and the pours are actually pours.

It was also cool to see how Chef Danny adds thoughtful and subtle riffs from Asian cuisine to the dishes that are fun, but don’t over complicate anything like “fusion” would.

The team was super attentive without being overbearing, and John (co-owner) spent probably a cumulative 30-45 minutes over the course of the meal doting on us, explaining the dishes and their “why,” along with just hamming it up. Like others have said, just really excellent service.

We’ll be back soon.
