The best of restaurants

They brought me the wrong meal, then tried to gaslight me that it wasn’t the wrong meal.

Seriously wonder why they got their Michelin star. Food was bad, service is so shitty and long wait. Very expensive for the portions. Owner seems to not care, save yourself some money and time by going elsewhere instead. I traveled to Thailand and tried almost every Thai restaurant in OC and LA, this is the WORST!!!

Food is good and there are a lot of yummy options. However the waitresses were pushy and not accommodating from the moment we sat down.

This place also has a strict closing time. We were seated at 8:15 and they wanted us to order all our food the first time the waitress showed up in addition to asking for last call within 15 minutes of us sitting down.

We got food poisoning here yesterday....My friend and I dined here and ordered several dishes, including the steamed mussels. My friend, who is a chef, noticed right away that the mussels were not fully hot, which is a major red flag for shellfish. Within hours, we had severe vomiting and diarrhea--the classic signs of food poisoning.

When I contacted the restaurant to let them know and ask for a refund, I was told I would need to provide a doctor's note confirming food poisoning, and that they would then submit a claim to their insurance company, which could take a couple of months. For a modest meal refund request, that's a wildly unreasonable and dismissive response.

Food safety is serious. Mistakes can happen--but how a restaurant takes responsibility matters just as much. Sadly, this experience showed a lack of accountability, and I can't recommend this place in good faith unless their management takes food safety and customer care more seriously.

First time at Chiang Rai – Thai Street Food.

Plenty of street parking. Smaller location and is packed. Even though it was called street food – it was so much more than that. The food quality was top tier. Well balanced and delicious.

Roti – flaky, crispy with a layer of chewiness. Paired with a yellow curry sauce. So good.

Crying Tiger – it was cooked medium rare and came with a homemade chili sauce.

We had to get the Khao Soi. Northern Thai curry noodles served with wet noodles and crispy fried noodles. We got ours with chicken. Everything was good with the dish except for the dried chicken.

Steamed Branzino – served whole. Very good. You can taste the delicate flavors.

We finished it off with the old school Pang Pang comprised of coconut ice cream on top of a sweet bread (think King Hawaiian) with condensed milk then cashew and coconut jelly on top.

Overall – really amazing company and great food.

The Khao Soi is phenomenal. Just the right amount of spice. 10/10.

this is from my dining experiences a few months ago. ordered fried rice, some beef dishes, Khao soi, and few others. Khao soi was good. I give 3 stars on food because of soggy fried rice.

Surprised this place has such good reviews. Got a Thai tea that was very sweet, otherwise the food was very delicious. The service on the other hand was terrible, the server never came back to our table after ordering, we were never able to get our waters refilled or to cancel the mango sticky rice after we realized we were full. By the time I was able to find flag someone down it was the end of the meal and they were quick to bring the check but nothing else. Really disappointing considering how highly rated this place is. Do not come close to closing or they'll rush everything and ignore you. Give it 2.5 stars only for the food.

So good, feels like I’m back in Chiang Rai! 😃

I was worried this place was overhyped. It’s not. It’s awesome. Go try it. In an unfussy but well-decorated atmosphere this gem serves the most fantastic Thai dishes. The quality of each dish rests with the love inside of every spoonful of soup and every strand of noodle. The care and tenderness of the front of house staff makes every interaction purposeful and kind - from the first interaction through every step of service, Chaing Rai staff make it seem like an effortless dance. They not only have vegetarian and vegan options but also herbavore/carnivorous diets too! We shared the roti and got lots of entrees to share but it was such a blur of delight that I’ll have to visit again soon.

PS: We came around 5pm and got seated immediately. It was still early so staff had some time before the rush. They gathered around to sing a song. We thought it was a birthday for a customer, but there were two beautiful cakes and the staff were signing to another staff member, everyone in the restaurant cheered. It was so sweet to see them celebrating each other - an indicator of a workplace where people are valued. I loved it. Happy birthday to everyone at Chaing Rai!! Such a wonderful experience full of sweetness.

This restaurant has a cool vibe. It was full, even during the week with a unique mix of patrons giving a hipster vibe. The food was delicious and we will definitely be back. Wish we lived closer.
