My wife and I just stopped in for dinner. As born and raised southerners (me Texas her Georgia) we are used to some great soul food and some great service, and this location absolutely delivered. We are fans of Georgia’s to begin with but Ray and his crew working the front made this evening memorable and honestly made me feel at home back in Texas. They were attentive, informed, charming, and frankly had the best customer service I’ve seen since I got to Cali.
Georgia’s is a fantastic spot but I’d come to this one specifically just to see Ray and the team again.

Poor. Chicken mac and cheese lack flavor. Served me ice cold candy yams.chicken over cooked and dry. I ask for dinner plate with all wings the waiter said ok. When I got my plate they gave me 4 party wings. I told her I want whole wings she told me she cant do that. Cost of the plate was over price. Would rather had Louisiana friend chicken then this place.

I’m giving this place three stars because I didn’t try everything, I guess’s I will leave more room to revisit again for a fair review. The first time that I went there, I tried the fried fish thinking it would be the actual fried fish Cajun Louisiana style. Well, it tasted different, tasted like store bought brand and the restaurant took it out from the freezer and fried it. I was not impressed at all. Maybe it is just the fish, not everything else. The fish tasted…hmmm…fake meat. I can’t put my finger on it.

The catfish (non-greasy) and yams were excellent
The red beans and rice were good and had a kick. Great option for food. Will return.

Food was horrible. I ordered fried chicken and my husband ordered fish. Whomever fried that chicken shouldnt be allowed to ever fry chicken again. The chicken tasted off like some one boiled it and then breaded it and fried it. Also, we ordered the fried green tomatoes which had a thick nasty crust on them. The crust fell right off of it when you picked up the chicken and green tomatoes. It was disgusting! Our meals included corn muffins which were the star of the meal. But the server brought them just before we were preparing to leave and we asked for them several times. It was such a waste of money. I didn't eat my food nor did my hubby nor did we ask for to go boxes. We came from Chicago and was eager to try this restaurant and also wanted to show our support and we left disappointed.

Very minimal flavor compared to other souls food places here in LA. Still nice to see soul food represented in the OC.

The food was great...BUT I wish some of the side dishes didn't include meat. Collard greens- meat, black eyed peas- meat, red beans & rice- meat. I suggest having these dishes available without meat.

My trip tip was tasty although I asked for medium and it was cooked all the way the muffins were good but my sides: the Cabbage and Yams were horrible. Im conflicted about the man n cheese. The yams tasted like they came out of a can and the cabbage seemed to only have some type of chili flavoring. Not tasty at all. The Mac n cheese noodles had perfect firmness but something was lacking.
My daughter said her Blackened Catfish was good as well her red beans/rice and collars.

Best jambalaya ever had in my life and I have had plenty. Whenever I am in town I will definitely go back.
