McDowell's soul food and barbeque (WE ACCEPT EBT)

I’m not going to lie I never been in this restaurant. I’ve only orders online. I love this food. I’ve never had anything go wrong by ordering here. But in the last 3 days my order kept being cancelled and or stole( but the stolen food had to do with uber eats. This food is really good so the driver must have wanted more than me. ) I’ve been craving this food for a minute now and I am disappointed that my order keeps getting cancelled by the restaurant.

I have never in my life tasted chicken so nasty. Nothing I got was edible I wasted my money. The Mac was salty and the gravy just tasted like flour. How do you mess up on red beans and rice though? The sad part is this is the only soul food place I know in Long Beach so I kept trying to give it a chance each time it got worse and worse. The only thing that saves them is the customer service they have a clean space and that’s why I wanted to be wrong.

Trash… went there for first time and the women were Notoriously RUDE! Food was like warm darn near cold, so it let me know it was sitting there and they warmed it up slightly! I hated the experience and they were out of mostly EVERYTHING I asked for!! Also Very empty on a Sunday evening in a Soul food restaurant.

My wife and I came in after she had a craving for some homestyle cooking since she's from the South. Immediately when we walked in, we were greeted warmly. Everyone that was working tonight was extremely friendly (looking at you, Jade and Chef!). Now on to the food, if I could give 10 stars, I would. I've never had food that was cooked so amazingly. The Mac and cheese, the garlic mash, the catfish, the burger, everything was seasoned perfectly. There is a bit of a wait for the food since it's a scratch kitchen but it's well worth it. I'd wait 5 hours to have that food. Literally licked our bowls clean and we're coming back tomorrow for more. Wish I had gotten the lady chef's name, but kudos to her! You made my wife's night with your Arkansas cooking. Definitely coming back to try your dessert.

Food was horrible Mac n cheese was burnt dry chops tuff n dressing and cornbread dry all the food to salty. Best part was the water. I believe the food was left over from days before

I went there in 10/30. I typically have always loved this and have recommended them to my friends and family. However, this visit totally changed my mind. I arrive and no one was in the restaurant. There was a Hispanic young man (very sweet) assisting me. Then comes a big African American dude wearing a security shirt coming from the restroom. I simply asked where was everyone else ( meaning the managers that are usually there) He says, they don’t work here no more, it’s just me and him (referring to the Hispanic guy) I said really? Then he says you mean the guys on the picture, I said yes! He says oh, they down the street working at they job. Well ok…His tone was dry, condescending and made me feel uncomfortable. To add insult to injury, I ordered the smothered pork hood, barely no gravy, Mac n cheese was mediocre. I don’t think I’ll be back.

This restaurant reminds me of home and my mamas cooking. An amazing environment with amazing food. If you have not tried their food then you are missing out. Try the cheesecake, trust me it won’t disappoint!
