The food was Soo good. The place felt like we were eating at someone's home but the food was top restaurant quality. We'll definitely be back. We got the bacon appetizer and my husband got the tri tip and eggs and I got the sticky ribs. Definitely recommend.

I am so relieved that they didn't close. I'm on a mission to try everything on the menus. The jams are all really good, but I like the cherry one best. Can't wait to take my parents here to try it. The potatoes are amazing. Also, the Jalapeno ranch is something I try to recreate at home. They make it better than I can obviously. This is kind of my favorite place to eat in this part of town. I dig the specials they have too.

Shady Grove Foods is a culinary gem that offers an abundance of space and a warm, inviting atmosphere. The moment you step foot into this rustic eatery, you'll be greeted by the tantalizing aroma of slow-cooked meats and the sounds of soulful music that will transport you to a bygone era. The star of the show, without a doubt, is the delectable sticky bones ribs, slathered in a sweet and tangy pineapple salsa and their signature BBQ sauce that packs a unique and adventurous flavor profile. And let's not forget the rice with chorizo - a simple yet brilliant combination that adds a delightful depth to the dish. But the ribs are not the only showstopper on the menu - the spicy hobo beans are a revelation, adding a delightful kick to the already impressive spread. The service is warm and attentive, making you feel like you're part of the Shady Grove family. And let's not forget the rustic vibes, perfectly captured in the charming decor that will make you feel like you're dining in a secluded mountain lodge. In short, Shady Grove Foods is a must-visit destination for anyone looking for a truly memorable dining experience that will leave you craving more.

I'm very happy to hear they are not closing after all. Thank you, Long Beach! I've been here twice and will put this place in my regular rotation for a local brunch. That bourbon bacon slice is something special. My husband and I shared it and gave each other the look that says "Oh hell yeh!" The red shrimp dish was really good, too. The shrimp were tiger, I believe.. a really good size and I got full and couldn't finish it. Added a egg on top but could've left that out. The dish stands perfectly on its own. Husband got the meatloaf and loved it. I had a German white wine, can't remember the name and it was so crisp, dry and lovely, husband had an IPA and really liked it. We sat out on the back patio which is decorated so cute, and they get a bonus for heated lamps that can stand up to our LBC brisk winter weather.

So tasty! Highly recommend. I had the hot hen sandwich which was perfectly fried and came with crispy seasoned potatoes. The brown lager beer accompanied the meal well. The back patio had heaters, market lights and a charming ambiance that was unexpected from just walking by the storefront many times. Our server was very friendly, and we had an overall great experience. We'll be back.

Was awesome food and awesome service! I wish I had found about them sooner, so sad they are closing down.

Soo good and service was great. And surprisingly huge. The ribs were great and the chorizo rice was so flavorful.

This place makes Long Beach better. Everyone in the neighborhood knows this place and how exceptional the food is, as are the people that make this place happen. If restaurants as good and authentic as this one keep opening up in Long Beach, there's no stopping this town. But for the moment, I love that this place is ours, a local treasure. It won't be long before that whole storyline changes into something else. But at least 4th street in Long Beach has the privilege of have the O.G. Shady Grove Foods, before the inevitable expansion of this marvelous Long Beach eatery. A couple of weeks ago, I had the best Tomato Soup and Grilled cheese of my life at Shady Grove. I may never see it again, as it was part of a limited/season menu, and good for them. I hope I'm wrong about that. The menu is in flux and evolving, which is a reason to keep going there. They get their bread from Gusto's bakery next door, which is a partership most restaurants would die to have. Shady Grove has that. If you want to talk about Bluegrass or BBQ all things Long Beach, ask the owners. They are an absolute delight and pleasure to speak with. I could go on with specifics about other dishes, but I'll save that for another review another time. They just got help from the City of Long Beach to have their meat smokers permitted properly in order to be on-site. It took a village to make that happen, and it was a beautiful stroke of generosity from the City of Long Beach in a critical moment to help Shady Grove Foods keep their doors open to the public. See you there!

Amazing drinks and food prepared and served with care. All this place needs is a smoked burger and it’s a one stop shop for all sandwiches near fourth street. You can’t go wrong for any meal. Brunch is a must!Vegetarian options: Vegan jambalaya for the win!

I'm writing this 5 star review knowing that Shady Groves is on the verge of closing of closing its doors. Sad day. It's closing not because the food isn't amazing or lack of popularity but because the city of Long Beach has no interest in working with a small business to come up with a solution to operate a smoker. The city doesn't allow the use of smokers at a business and smoking meats off site just became financially burdensome. I am a big supporter of street vendors but I find it infuriating that they're allowed to operate their business, with their equipment but Shady Groves isn't allowed to. I discovered this gem 6 months ago and have since been 3 times. The food here is amazing! My go to, is the tri tip, which is cooked to perfection. If you order the dish during brunch, it's served with eggs, and during dinner it's served with beans and greens. The salsa verde and pico de gallo compliment the dish very well. The ribs are to die for as well. I would order the tri tip and have some one else order the ribs, so you split the dishes but if you can only have one of these, go with the tip. Service here is amazing, especially when provided by Marisa D. She's so funny and personable. There's a small dining room and a larger outdoor patio for dining. The inside feels like your neighborhood bar, while the outside has a cute barn/ranch feel to it. This business will still exist through popups and catering. But do yourself a favor and eat here while you can. They're also proving pickup options for Christmas, including prime rib!

My husband and I are new to Long Beach and I’d asked for recommendations for Thanksgiving as it is just the two of us.David graciously invited us to attend his private Thanksgiving at his restaurant. Complete strangers, he invited us to join his family and friends. We were blown away by his hospitality. We attended his Thanksgiving dinner with delicious food, drinks and amazing company. It is rare to find such kindness and authenticity but, he and his family made us feel so welcome.Shady Grove will be our go to spot when you need comfort food and you’re welcomed. Thank you so much for having us David! We will see you in the neighborhood.

You have to go try this bbq at Shady Grove. The bacon is out of this world, the pulled pork is better than in Texas, the local beer selection is great, and the patio outside is really nice. But Shady Grove is more than a bbq spot, people are also very kind and genuine. It's a real local restaurant where you eat great food and above all connect with other friends and neighbors.
