The MODERN Kitchen + Bar

Wow! This is a hidden gem! Had a few hours until our flight out of Long Beach. Found this amazing spot for a coffee and was absolutely blown away by the owner(Shannon) and the menu! We ordered 2 coffees a sandwich and a cinnamon roll. The coffees were amazing, the owner made me a custom coffee. I asked for 'Something Sweet' and the drink was so good we ordered a 2nd one. Cinnamon roll was hot, sweet, and cream cheese frosted. Licked the bowl clean! Breakfast Sandwich was made with fresh ingredients and was so tasty! We will plan our future trips to this Airport just to have this coffee and cinnamon roll again! 10/10! Oh and the reggae music jamming is the vibe!!

My wife and I stumbled across this little gem located near the Long Beach airport. They are truly a 'Don't judge a book by it's cover' type of restaurant. Very unassuming from the street, but once inside, the vibe and atmosphere are fantastic. A great selection of appetizers and entrees along with a full bar and some delicious signature cocktails. Service was great. Recommended.

Their soups - tomato bisque and pumpkin are bomb!! Also love the 1/2 sandwich 1/2 soup or Caesar salad combo. My fave sandwiches here are the tuna and chicken club. Sooo delicious!! 😋

I was excited to try this spot with some friends based on the reviews but was disappointed with the food. I’ll start with the good though: Service was good and the space is lovely. They have a great bar selection and creative cocktail menu. The barstools are incredibly comfortable - padded with backrests that stayed comfy for the couple hours we were there.

The not so good: we all ordered salads. One got the Greek, one got the arugula, and I got the Caesar. All of us asked for either grilled salmon or shrimp on the salads and expected just that… grilled. The salmon came out and had no grill marks and was straight out of the refrigerator. When I asked the server, her response was “grilled then chilled”. I think it would have been more accurate to say “baked then chilled” but whatever. It was dry, flavorless, and tasted like leftover salmon from the day before. The Greek salad was overwhelmingly just tomatoes. Total meh salad experience.

Small but well set up seeting area and shaded patio. We had an amazingly polite and attentive sever, and it was nicely air conditioned. The had both high and low seating and quick service.

The Modern is amazing! The first time we ordered for pick up it was a large order to feed our crew. They happily helped me double check orders (even when it was after hours) and helped me bring the food to the production van! Not to mention the food is fresh and delicious, not a single person on the crew was displeased with their order (which is a miracle). We will be ordering from here again and again and again!

As I stepped into The Modern Kitchen + Bar. I was greeted by the ever-welcoming staff Skyler ,Shannon, and Miss.Mary whose warmth set the tone for an exceptional dining experience. Although not my first visit, this is my first time revealing one of my hidden foodie locations in Long Beach.

The menu, a plethora of modern flavors, left me torn between two enticing options: the Chicken + 3 Cheese Hatch Chili Dip with a Chicken Caesar salad or the tantalizing thin-sliced warm pastrami on griddled rye. Shannon, a true subject matter expert of The Modern, came to my rescue with insightful recommendations. Her expertise extended beyond just food; her concoction of Malibu, rum, and a splash of sprite proved to be the perfect lunchtime refreshment.

I found myself lost in the bold and flavorful world of the Chicken + 3 Cheese Hatch Chili Dip, each bite feeling like a personal culinary masterpiece. Even the simple, yet exquisite Caesar Salad, adorned with pepita seeds and fresh romaine, left a lasting impression, especially with the added avocado to appease my vegetable quota for the day.

Every aspect of the meal, from the expert guidance to the meticulously crafted dishes, spoke volumes of The Modern's commitment to excellence. If you haven't yet experienced The Modern Kitchen + Bar you're missing out on a culinary journey that transcends the ordinary and propels you into a realm of modern delight. The food is always great, and the service is too. I only wish it was open longer hours so I could enjoy it more often - but I'll gladly take what I can get! The Bolognese is amazing, and the Greek salad add chicken is a personal favorite.

Super cool spot at the local airport, quiet and out of the way, very friendly staff! The cocktail list is long and I’d like to try all of them. We tried the Cucumber cooler and the old fashioned (both tasty). There’s a great Happy Hour selection of food too. We tried the pickled eggs (spicy). I’ll absolutely be back to try more!
