My go to place for Japanese food & teppan. I’ve been going here since I moved here in 2021, and it’s one of my favorite places in Long Beach! I normally go during the lunch hours when it’s less busy.

My wife & me went to Tokyo Wako at the Pike Shoreline during Memorial weekend and these are my reflections. The food was adequate and the service was okay. I ordered filet minion and it was served in soup which was off putting. We barely saw our server after he delivered our entrees but when we did see him he was nice and accommodating. We spent over $200 for dinner for 2 which wasn’t worth it.

Wait too long , service taking too long for the food and the cook, people got served before us

I have been to many of these kinds of Japanese restaurants, and this was the first time I did not get what I ordered. The chef gave another man at our table who seemed to be a good friend of his most of his attention and the scallops I had ordered along with his steak and shrimp. The traditional show seems to be getting lost and watered down along with not much enthusiasm from the chefs. They did adjust the bill after finding out I did not get what I ordered and overall it was OK. But I think ok is not good enough for this style of restaurants and the price. There should be more and you should come away feeling happy about the meal and entertainment factor.

I visited this place with my family , was very upset about quality food , steak was like a gum very dry and it was not possible to chowing , and piece was very small . But price for that dry piece was like we been that evening in a luxury restaurant . Our mood went down after that experience that evening .

Great tasting food that's not afraid to season the way you request (a lot of garlic butter) without the extra charging. The establishment is clean, the hosts are attentive, drinks & sushi are pretty good & Anselmo, is our go to Chef.

I've been to many a teppan house in my time, love these types of places.

Tokyo Wako is interesting. First of all, their website did not list this location, which I found odd but maybe it's new.

I in Long Beach at the end of September for a convention and came here for lunch on 9/25.

The food was good. I had the combo Filet and Chicken. To be honest, I probably should just have gotten the chicken since I've been having Filets for dinner at steak houses all week and it's just a world different at places like this. But for what it was, it was good.

My friend who was there with me was vegetarian and gluten free and the staff went above and beyond to make sure that her needs were met and she was happy with her food.

My only complaint is that we had a trainee doing our cooking and while he did a good job, you could tell he was focused on not messing up the tricks and he wasn't much of a conversationalist. For example, he asked if we like coffee and then mentioned he had a favorite place, but when asked what it was he said "oh just go to starbucks." It was odd and a bit off-putting. The table behind us (which sat at the same time we did and had enough seats for us to join them) got the veteran chef and you could see and hear the difference. Since half of what you pay for and the main reason you go there is for the show, it was a bit of a let down. As someone who has been asked to grade new trainees at the local teppanyaki restaurant, I get it and have no problem with new chefs, but the conversation skills were my biggest issue. Still, not worth knocking off an entire star.

Vegetarian options: They had a vegetarian teppanyaki option that my friend got and enjoyed. I also gave them all the veggies I don't like, so it was a win-win!

Dietary restrictions: My friend is vegetarian and legit needs to be gluten free and the staff did an excellent job making sure nothing had gluten in it. Even double checking with the chef.
