I love this place. I have been coming here since I moved to long beach two years ago. You can sit outside and eat your food in peace. I’m usually greeted with a smile and always provided with great service.

Pro tip. Order sushi to go and take it to sake secret next door for the perfect meal to go with a drink. Sushi is yummy and staff are nice. Rolls are fresh and made to order. The wait is not bad for sushi! The price ia good for sushi not bad and ypu definitely get your money worth.

Most overpriced sushi in town. The kind of sushi you’d expect if they were going out of business, because the quality doesn’t match the price at all.

Tried here for the first time today and almost left because it was very busy and the wait was long, and the service wasn't the most friendly. But I'm so glad we stayed! Once the food started coming out the plate timing was always perfect and everything was delicious. This has been hands down my favorite dragon roll, ever. We will be back! If bedside manner was better this would be 5 stars.

All I can really say about the service was they got my Uber eats driver my food quickly, that being said they did fail to not put my warm sushi with my cold sushi making everything Luke warm at best.

You will spend $25+ on some dry, bland food. That you will instantly regret and make you not even hungry. If you dare try it after reading this, you deserve it. SMH so disappointed

Do not buy the teriyaki chicken here, rice was bland and the chicken was undercooked and beyond chewy.

This is what you get for $20?!! This is ridiculous!! the ginger smells like it's rotten! You get a small serving of dry beef, you ask for teriyaki sauce and they act super stingy asking for any extra sides they give you attitude. If you're running a business you're supposed to satisfy the customer not yourself. Total disappointment never ever ordering anything from this place it's like the food is about to go bad it's like on the verge of expiration and they're still serving it. Yuck! Worst Sushi spot in LB pls don't waste your money here. There is so many other sushi spots or Teriyaki places that I go to that fill up the plate with beef you can't even see the rice underneath look at the skimpy amount of meat overpriced and terrible quality. Also, where is my miso soup? Every combo plate comes with the miso soup what the hell talk about stingy they want to charge for everything here. I had to edit my review again so you guys can see this nasty ass tempura that is just full of flour inside.

Sushi Zen Maru is a small business on one of the busiest streets in Downtown Long Beach. While our party (5 people) were grateful to have a place to sit down and eat, when beginning our Saturday night, the experience was easily forgettable.

Food Quality - the taste and presentation were average and unimpressive. The hand-cut rolls were not very filling and meager in size, considering the prices ($17-20). Teriyaki bowls were reportedly "nothing to write home about, but at least it was food." There is room for improvement.

Service - I went with a party of 5 and were the only patrons inside. There was only one employee working at the time, and we had to track him down a few times to get help. Customers must order at the front counter. Not once did he come by our table to check on us. We all assumed he was busy with something better to do.

Atmosphere - kind of plain and felt sterile in terms of décor. There are two televisions that were screening at high volume, one of which was directly over our table. Our group was having a difficult time just having a conversation, so I had to ask the server/cook to turn the volume down, but he turned it off instead, which was fine with us. The exterior doesn't stand out well and is easy to miss.

Seating - a few small tables and a community seating bar/shelf along the window.

Vegetarian options: Sparse vegetarian/vegan options.

Parking: Finding street parking is very unlikely. Opting to park in one of the nearby parking garages is recommended.

Kid-friendliness: Very tame setting. Fine for kids. Unsure if complimentary boosterseats are available for use.

Wheelchair accessibility: The restaurant is on the first floor on the streetside. However, wheelchair users may have a difficult time getting inside as the door does not seem wide enough for a wheelchair and requires manually pulling open to enter.

Came in here on my lunch break and this place feels like one of those businesses that operate as a front for money laundering.

Ordered a teriyaki chicken bowl. It felt/ tasted like it was cooked previously and then microwaved. Overall lacked flavor, presentation, etc.

The server was kind and that’s the only reason for the 2nd star.

Not worth the price even if it was free. Rarely do I give a 1 star review but the food was awful. The tempura was greasy, the salmon on the Island Roll smelled funky and was falling apart like spoiled fish does, the fish on the Rainbow Roll was mushy and fell apart. Seaweed salad was average. Ginger isn't fresh and barely has any taste to it. We literally could not finish our food.
