Roja is fantastic, they have great service, drinks and food. We always have a wonderful time there. There isn't a bad dish on the menu! Added bonus is the owner James who is there every evening.
Such a great atmosphere, sweet wait staff and a perfect wine list. We loved each course and highly recommend the desserts
Roja in downtown Los Altos is fantastic! The food is outstanding—fresh, flavorful dishes with beautiful presentation. Service was warm, attentive, and spot-on with recommendations. Worth every penny—highly recommend!
Amazing food and service. It's a large open space inside so can get noisy. We sat near the bar and I would try to avoid that. Outside seems to be the best idea with cozy seating and heaters. But this was January! . Scallops were the best I've ever had. Duck was also great. Pork chop good. Apps : cauliflower-wow (but spicy). Pork belly WOW. Lobster toast also great (but spicy. Why? ). Definitely will go again. Priced as a special treat vs every week!
Great service Food was really good but it missed the WOW in the flavor ... It was expensive ~$80/person and we didn't get 4 entrees ... lots of sharing apps
In a city that for years was a culinary backwater, Los Altos is now a spot with a lot of outstanding options. Roja stands out the highest
Loved the vegetarian menu options. Service was super efficient and friendly. Went on a Monday night so the less busy than normal. Loved the dining experience.
First time here since it was Asa - and did not disappoint. Food very solid, wines very good, and service very friendly and casual. However, just a few service/kitchen issues - wrong pasta was ordered (but fixed), ran out of one dessert that we ordered (but comped another one), and forgot one of our side orders. Definitely pricey for an every day neighboorhood restaurant, but for a special occasion or date, wonderful. We did thoroughly enjoy ourselves.
I really wanted to love Roja. The location in Los Altos is fantastic, and the atmosphere is undeniably lively—perfect if you are looking for high energy. As for the kitchen, the food is consistently solid; everything we ate was very good, even if not necessarily "unforgettable." Unfortunately, the service experience has become a dealbreaker for me. On my last two visits, I've encountered the same service style that feels less like hospitality and more like a high-pressure sales tactic. Throughout the meal, there was a relentless push to upsell us on paid bread, extra sides, and more drinks before we were ready. It crossed the line from attentive to aggressive, making the dinner feel uncomfortable rather than relaxing. While I enjoy the setting, the food isn't quite spectacular enough to outweigh the stress of fending off constant sales pitches. It's a shame, but I likely won't be back until the service approach changes.
Halibut was excellent! Waiter less than knowledgeable about menu. Overpriced. Warm and sophisticated ambiance. Great addition to downtown Los Altos.

We were a group of 7 and everyone enjoyed their meals. We ordered lamb, trout, lasagna, pork chop Milanese, and other small plates and salads. James was a wonderful host and took excellent care of our group.
Interesting food, generally good but oddly inconsistent. The trout with kale was weird -- a small dry piece of trout on a bed of tasteless kale. The duck was generous and good but short on accompaniments. The scallop dish with rice was great, as was the seabass special. No bread was offered -- that seems to be the norm these days when you have to pay for everything. Desserts were very good. Wine list OK, generally pricey with goog (but not great) whites at 75-100. Reds much higher. The markup here is probably 3x. Why do restaurants want to make excessive profits on wine -- makes little sense to me. Why penalize people who like wine with their food, when some folks don't drink at all?
The lamb shank was excellent! Best I have ever tasted. The meatballs crazy good! I can't wait to go back.
Food was very good , the waiter was nice but very busy which delayed us getting our drinks. Overal cost for our experience was expensive for that price we feel the service should have been perfect. This won't stop us from coming back.
Roja is just an incredible experience. The service is excellent and the food is out of this world. I had the duck which is my go to when I visit. My friend had the smashed pork chop which I will probably get next time I visit. It is a bit noisy inside so we sat out on the patio under a heater. Had a great time!
