A restaurant that claims to be Cantonese Cusine but is actually American Chinese food. We were ready to order and signaled to the waiter multiple times, but the waiters passed the buck causing us to wait for at least 10 minutes and were served without a smile just to get the job done. In order to localize the taste, they even added purple cabbage and green onion to the classic dish of three-cup chicken, and made Hunan homemade tofu sweet. Overall it's not satisfying.

Having visited Chef Chu in Los Altos on multiple occasions, I've found the dining experience to be generally pleasant, albeit with room for improvement. The restaurant boasts some delectable dishes and a welcoming atmosphere, but there are notable areas that could be enhanced.Firstly, cleanliness standards need attention, particularly regarding glassware and cutlery. On several visits, I've observed dirty glasses and teacups, suggesting subpar cleaning practices. It's perplexing for a renowned establishment to overlook such basic hygiene, leaving patrons questioning the maintenance standards.Another aspect warranting consideration is the imposition of a limited dining time. Despite patrons wishing to linger and enjoy conversation after finishing their meals, there appears to be a rush to clear tables, even if dishes still contain food. This policy detracts from the relaxed dining experience expected at a high-profile restaurant like Chef Chu.On a positive note, interactions with some waitstaff have been delightful, reflecting the friendly ambiance cultivated by Chef Chu himself. However, consistent efforts are required to ensure all aspects of service align with the restaurant's esteemed reputation.Regarding the cuisine, while some dishes excel, others may fall short of expectations. It seems that char siu might not be the restaurant's forte, highlighting areas where culinary refinement could elevate the overall dining experience.

Famous restaurant. There are more foreigners among the guests. Feels like a Chinese restaurant from the 90s. The taste is average. The amount is small. Multiple people can go and eat well. It definitely feels like it's becoming less competitive compared to restaurants these days? It's kind of funny that the owners serve you with a Rolex on. It's worth a visit at least once.

This place is too overrated.Food : 1/5:We ordered duck and lemon chicken.Lemon chicken was greasy and too sweet ( I expected a lemon chicken to be sour)Crispy Duck was also greasy. Both fried with extremely low quality oil.Two of the most gross foods I’ve ever tried. glasses were smelly as I saw the first waiter hands who poured water were not clean. Our waiter misguided us to order moreCutleries were overused and scratched.Atmosphere: too oldTake out food prices are $2-$7 less !

The atmosphere was nice and the waiters were super friendly, even the main chef came out and chat with us. However, we were disappointed with the food. The duck was greasy and the tofu pot as well, which made me feel disgusting and needed to drink lots of tea and chew gums to reduce the feeling. I'm a frequent chinese restaurant visitor and i can say that the duck should not be this greasy.

Bustling Chinese restaurant that is very popular with locals. Not a lot of tables, so it fills up fast. Small parking lot makes it different to find a spot. Expected more from the food, as everything was a bit sweeter than expected. Fast and friendly service.

Revisited after a long absence. A 10-person banquet dinner. The Chicken Lettuce Cup, which IMO is a signature dish, was very good. Hot & Sour Soup also did not overwhelm with vinegar (as is often the case). Also appreciated how finely they sliced the chicken in the Chicken with Snow Peas dish, which delivered tender chicken breast meat in a lightly flavored dish where you can taste the 2 main ingredients. However, in much of the rest of the banquet (beef, fish, prawns, etc.), all the flavors converged. Everything had way-too-intense, thickened sweet sauce that masked the food. The dishes didn't offer separate, distinct flavoring that, to me, is the foundation of a good Chinese banquet. The seafood was fresh but overtaken by the sauce(s). Half of the Prawns in Two Styles, for example, had a nice, light touch on the one side, but an overwhelming ketchup-laced sauce on the other that ruined that half of the "two styles."This place has existed since before Silicon Valley was awash with Asians and distinct Asian restaurants, and the food they offer up has been made to suit a Western palate unfamiliar with what authentic means.Parking: Parking on President's Day (within the Chinese New Year celebration period) was quite tough.
