Good food and staff, but oof…the interior lighting is terrible! It’s far too bright and poorly placed, casting some very unflattering shadows on the tables and taking away from the entire dining experience. We’d love to return if the ambiance improves, but the 'interrogation room' lighting has got to go! 😩🤦🏻♀️

We ended up here after a rather frustrating Vday of parking hunting to eat at a Japanese restaurant (2 attempts). Well what began as a frustrating dining feat quickly turned into an ambient relaxed atmosphere albeit being seated at the bar (no resy) so we were fortunate enough to be seated immediately & did I mention the finger licking steak & the strong cocktails? We loved it & so will you— especially if you’re headed to Mark Taper show this is your Go TO chef centric gastro haven I’d say

A bit overrated. They seemed understaffed and I feel like the price for a pasta dish, basically 'peasant food,' because there was a specific guest chef, wasn't reflected in quality. I think I could have ordered something similar at any local Italian restaurant for less and would have been happier with the flavor.
Ambience was nice. Otherwise I would be rating two stars for food and ssrvice.

I've enjoyed past meals at this restaurant, but I went on a Sunday night (prior to closing show before Christmas) and they were out of more than half of their pasta dishes and out of bread for the table. For a restaurant at this price level to be out of one item should be an issue, but being out of most of the pastas and to not have basic bread for the table is ridiculous. No credits or discounts were offered to our table despite returning to us multiple times to tell us that they were out of what we had ordered or wanted to order.
Our 4th visit there this year and find it to be a perfect venue for before the theater. . .very consistent. Good chef and all-around positive experience. A nice relief from overpriced and inconsistent Kendalls
When ever I eat This restaurant they run out of items. Happens every time. They also said they didn't have Gluten free pasta even though I've gotten it 2 other times. So, they have it but the waiter said they don't have gf pasta. Aggravating.
Although the rest of our meal was excellent, the pasta Al Vongole was sadly deficient. Aside from its being inappropriately doused in lemon juice, I could not detect even a whiff of garlic in the dish. I have had decent Vongole from this chef previously, so perhaps the dish was made my someone else, or he was hung over? You certainly can and should do better!
If you don't mind being asked to pay an extra $2 for some Parmesan cheese for your under flavored pasta dish, then this is the place for you.
My wife and I went to Abernethy’s for dinner before the opera, which was scheduled to start at 7:30 PM. We arrived at 5:50 and were seated by 6:00. Wanting to ensure we wouldn’t be late, we immediately ordered a couple of appetizers and two entrées.
It took about 30 minutes for the appetizers to arrive. By 6:45, I asked the server whether our entrées would be delayed because we needed to leave for the show. She assured us they were working on it and that the food should be out soon.
However, by 7:10, we still had no entrées. At that point, I asked to speak with the manager to cancel our order, as it was already too late. The staff was not apologetic and came across as rude. We also noticed that guests who were seated after us had already been served, yet no explanation was offered.
We barely made it to the show, and no complimentary discount or gesture was provided. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience, and we will not be returning.

Very tasty but limited menu--nothing out of the ordinary. In spite of asking several times, unable to get water refills. Also, much anxiety-inducing period when their table credit card reader kept rejecting our card which ultimately was their issue and apparently they knew that but didn't warn us. But I still love this place and look forward to their ever-rotating chef/menu.
Great outdoor eating experience before going to a show at the Ahmanson. Service is greatly improved and food is always good. OMG the fiori di zucca is delicious. I'll be back while Italian chef is in the kitchen
Beautiful pre-theater dining experience, seated under the stars. We arrived two hours before show time. The octopus and squash blossoms were excellent starters before our beautifully cooked salmon entree. The waiter was very cooperative during the ordering process by asking our theater time. Our entree did come a little sooner than desired...just having taken a couple bites of our starters - so maybe a little too eager to get us to our show on time.
Dinner and a show stopper! What a lovely restaurant! We came back 5 days later for a 2nd visit and I loved it even more. All of the dishes were worthy. But, my favorite was the charred broccolini and pane. I would eat both as an entree! My husband wouldn't let me take a pic of the broccolini because he was too hungry...Men!

Great food. Mediocre service...nearly every time. We only got half of our food. Same for the next table. I think this place is a training ground for wait staff maybe? If so, that's cool, but it'd be nice if that was just made explicit.
