My brand-new iPhone was stolen out of my front pocket by professional pickpockets while I was inside Akbar. There are warning signs, but I never imagined something in a front pocket would be taken so easily. I imagine there were a few people working together as for a moment, I was surrounded by a crowd moving in all directions and then moments later I noticed my phone was missing. These people were clearly experienced and slick.
Staff took my information, but didn’t seem surprised at all — which suggests this happens regularly. That’s concerning. Management needs to take patron safety more seriously with better security and a stronger door policy. Letting everyone in turns the bar into a free-for-all and attracts criminals.
After speaking with security, another patron immediately told me she’d been warning her friends that “the girls were out to steal” because of the vibe. That says a lot.
This is supposed to be a gay bar, but it felt overrun by straight crowds, which changes the atmosphere and seems to bring in the wrong element. I don’t know if I’ll be back. This issue needs to be taken more seriously by the management.

Meh so called gay bar in Silver Lake. Straight people making out. Lots of women. I'll stick to West Hollywood.... Ugh

This cute bar is one of the two bars left in the Silverlake area. It’s a great place to meet up with friends in a calm environment. They do, however, also have a very active calendar and a dance floor next to the bar.

Such a fun, inclusive gay bar with amazing music, great servers, and an always-packed dance floor. The energy is immaculate, people are friendly, there’s usually a fun dj, and the vibe just feels good. Whether you’re going to dance or hang, Akbar is always a good time! 🏳️🌈

Do not go if you are bi. They will discriminate against you just because you are too drunk and dancing on the platforms that are meant just for the dancers. They kicked me off but did not replace me with another dancer so I jumped back up again. This is not a safe space for bi guys to have fun while their girlfriends are there. It’s my birthday by the way. I’m upset and my gay guy friend who I’m in love with is mad.

Nice bar to spend a night out with friends, can have a table to chat or hit a dance floor. Friendly staff is a huge plus.

Drinks are expensive here
I use to love this place but in the last 2 years it’s been in a decline. From the music to the expensive drinks. $10 for modelo is RIDICULOUS

everyone in my group had their phone stolen. from the aggressive signage warning of pickpockets we noticed on the way out and a couple other reviews, seems like this is a recurrent problem here. too bad, otherwise a fun place.
be sooooo careful I know THREE stolen phone incidents from my friends. one was two in one night. literally be so careful. fun dancing tho…
A bartender charged a $4 tip without my consent. That is stealing!
