Bar Magnolia

Honestly can’t say good enough things about this bar. I used to live a few blocks away and have tried almost every cocktail on the menu and each one has been elegant, unique and beautifully balanced. I love it because you can tuck yourself away in one of the lounge areas with a book if you want, or if you feel like being social, you can sit at the bar and do that as well. The bartenders know their stuff and are very easy to talk to. No two conversations I’ve had there have ever been the same, since the customers are usually guests staying at the hotel from all over the world. You won’t regret popping into this hidden gem. Truly a breath of fresh air from the busy streets of DTLA.

I stayed at Hotel Figueroa and on their website I saw the happy hour at Bar Magnolia downstairs. I went on down and was told that there was no happy hour. I mentioned there was one on their website. The server’s response, honestly, was that they recently unionized so a lot of things changed.

They left to bring over water, and when they came back they mentioned again that there had been a lot of recent changes and that their menu wasn’t even on the website anymore (this is false). They said they triple-checked, but they cannot offer the advertised prices. We left.

Receipts attached showing the happy hour menu is still on their primary website (and everywhere else I looked too). They have made sooo many changes but haven’t found time to remove discontinued discounts from their website. Can’t imagine why.

What a shame to use unionization for an excuse to advertise false prices. They should get it together and have some pride.

Way too expensive for mediocre food and poor slow service. If there is a conference nearby don’t go.
