Northern Californian who grew up Portuguese. The food was good but not authentic. Things like I can taste paprika from Mexico/America and not the real paprika from Portugal. When trying to order a beer, I couldn't get my beans to drink with. It seems more like a place to have small dishes and try wine. I grew up in Madera and was expecting to see sweet wine, ehh. Nobody spoke Portuguese and the place was filled with hipsters. I would only take my family, not because it's authentic or good but I would love to see my family make fun of the hipsters. There is no culture and people are obsessed with the fast consumerism. I'm also confused why Portuguese restaurants are so expensive, our cuisine is supposed to be for poor farmers and fisherman.

I traveled from Palm Springs, CA to meet my daughter from San Diego, my son who is visiting from Portland, Oregon and the amazing friends from the LA area at Barra Santos. My kids and I traveled to Portugal last year and was exposed to very tasty Portuguese food and Barra Santos didn’t disappoint. Every dish we had at Marta Santos was delicious and fresh. Made me miss Portugal.
The service was also great. We sat at the bar and the people who served us were very attentive.
I wish we have a place like Barra Santos in Palm Springs.

We decided to discover a Portuguese restaurant in Los Angeles, we were a little disappointed, a restaurant 9000 km from Portugal but with a cuisine also 9000 km away from Portuguese food, the only specialties in our Portugal were the cod cakes, the California-style bifanas , Porto Merico will be of a higher level because at 10 dollars a glass it is expensive. They also deserved some custard tarts. Ultimately, the atmosphere is far from the Portuguese environments found, for example, in New York, where the restaurants really have the spirit of our Portugal.

As a half português, eating Portuguese food my whole life, I enjoyed the restaurant. The food was seasoned a little differently than I'm used to. The Português usually season their food very simply with salt, onions, garlic and wine. Piri piri Is a relatively new trend that originated in Mozambique, one of Portugal's territories, and made it's way into restaurants probably in the late 1960's. The other seasonings and herbs they used like cilantro, miso, are not common, to me. The menu was limited in entrees and I think the specials are what they count on people going for. I would recommend going once or twice. The bolinho de bacalhau was the most authentic thing I tried. The waiter was cute lol. The food was worth a try although pricy.

Hats off to the Chef, the dishes are Superb
I will definitely be back as my long wait for a table Friday night fizzled my opportunity to try a couple of the specials

Excellent food, great wine selection, just know you’ll be waiting 45-1hr on a peak night. Was it worth the wait? Absolutely. Had the Endive Salad, corn dish, chicken, tuna crudo, all of them hit on the money. Excellent date spot, not a great place if you have a party of 4+ as it’s a small restaurant. Same owners as Shins next door! We”ll be back.

Food was very average. Almost trying too hard….we had the prawn, it was over cooked although the sauce was okay. I had high hopes and was a bit disappointed. No oysters either. Fairly limited menu. Would not recommend.

I was pleased to find that everything we ordered was delicious. Everything came out well presented and the staff seemed reasonably knowledgeable.
I hate mandatory 20% gratuity anywhere. It's presumptuous. Leave me the option to tip more if I want to FROM 15%.
If this was Europe prices or just downright more affordable I'd go all the time. But it's not. It's a bit outrageous for an overall casual neighborhood bar snack experience. The atmosphere level and the prices don't really match up.

Everything starts @ the Door & if it starts with a Hostess with an ATTITUDE I know it’s down hill from there. Portions are small they are more like Tapas, some items are Pricey, Taste is Okay Nothing like WOW. And the Kicker was that 20% Service fee ? you’re in Cypress Park Not BeverlyHills. Unfortunately I will not be coming back. I’ve read some of the Reviews & Noticed when they respond to OUR Comments it’s a Very GENERIC Reply & we all get the SAME. Sad they are Truly NOT reading & Responding to Individuals who are letting them how Our Visit was.
SERVICE IS YOUR FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE !

It’s all 5’s if the hostess isn’t so rude. Checking people in for tables with an attitude doesn’t serve the restaurant well, especially if it’s the first person who greets you when you walk up to the door.
