Went to Basil and Cheese Cafe after looking to see what coffee shop had good reviews nearby. Initially, we were only going for coffee but ended up getting food too and I’m glad we made that decision. We ended up getting the honey vanilla latte (cold), bacon breakfast burrito with a chipotle aioli and tots on the side. The burrito was amazing. I had a couple breakfast burritos on my trip to LA and this was by far my favourite and I would go back just for it. The aioli and salsa really added to it and the tater tots inside the burrito provided a great crunch. Even though the drink is a crowd favourite, I thought it was just okay. Next time, I’ll just get a regular iced latte. Will definitely be back for the burrito!

The breakfast burrito is to devour. Love the texture and the crunch you get when biting into the hash brown inside. A bit oily but very well served and rich in flavor. You could say it's a bit salty but complimentary and with the side of sauce they give you, extra points for that.

If you’re searching for a great café downtown, look no further than Basil & Cheese Cafe. The matcha latte is a must-try—delightfully creamy with a deep matcha flavor. Every staff member I met was genuinely friendly and offered fantastic service. The café’s bright ambiance made it feel lively and comfortable. On top of the drinks, the food was also mouthwateringly good. I’ll definitely be coming back!

I came to this place with high expectations after following them on Instagram for a while. The food looked clean, healthy, and aligned with my fitness goals. I was excited to give it a try and even brought a friend along, thinking we’d both enjoy something new.

Unfortunately, the experience was completely disappointing.

The girl who took my order didn’t seem interested or attentive at all. I was very clear with my instructions — I asked for no cheese, a boiled egg on the side (not in the omelet), and extra arugula. None of those were followed. Instead, my omelet came with cheese, no arugula, and the egg was included directly in the dish. I had to wait even longer for it to be corrected.

This isn’t just about a messed-up order — it’s about lack of care and customer service. When you’re paying nearly $60 for breakfast (plus LA parking), you expect basic attention and respect. Sadly, we received neither. My friend and I left with a really bad impression of the place.

There are so many great restaurants in LA that offer better food, better portions, and better service — places like Urth Caffé, for example. This spot, Basil & Cheese, unfortunately, does not live up to the image they project online. Maybe the place has potential, but poor service like this ruins it completely.

I won’t be coming back, and I definitely don’t recommend it. Unless you’re okay with poor service and being ignored, I’d say skip this place.

A classic case of doing a lot, but none of it well. Most of all, the coffee beverages are really bad—and they’re really expensive at that. I paid ~$7.50 for a 24oz “cold brew” that tasted *sour*. It was clearly just leftover old coffee from the day before (or worse). Undrinkable.

The person there was nice enough to swap it for an iced dirty chai, but that wasn’t much better. Way too sweet, not good quality chai, and their espresso is made just like you would make it at home with a simple machine. I couldn’t drink more than a few sips. I love coffee, and I would NEVER order it from here again, even if I was desperate. I really don’t like how they call themselves a cafe and charge high prices without bothering to become an expert at it—or even moderately good. Either lower your prices for cheap drinks or learn your craft.

The people behind the counter are kind, but management has done them a disservice by not training them well. We asked about gluten in dishes and they were very unfamiliar with the menu, even on a basic level of knowing what dishes were (had no idea what quinoa was even though it’s in several items). The wrap I got was pretty good, but the salmon we got was way overcooked and way too salty.

The tables were dirty and covered in crumbs. We had to clean them before sitting down even though staff wasn’t doing anything. Again, training.

There are too many wonderful cafes in LA to consider this place.

The bagels are so soft and delicious! Not heavy like your usual bagel. The hint of basil was also nice. Coffees were delish too.

Overcrowded with poor customer service, no one knows what they're doing! Took them 30 min to get me a bagel and cofee, the the guy who took my order 1.took the wrong order 2. Forgot to put it in 🤦. Its a mess here, if you are trying to grab a bite and go this place is not for you.

BRING THE COOK OUT 🗣️
We’re here for the first time in LA, visiting from Chicago. Basil and cheese was down the street from where we staying. Stopped by and got bagels and they are so good!! I got the smokes turkey avocado with arugula and cheese and my bf got the bacon and cheese with egg. He says this is one of the best bagel places he’s tried and he’s very picky. There was a small wait but it was worth it, I’d wait again and can’t wait to go back! I also tried the honey cinnamon latte iced with oatmilk and it was made perfect! There’s not many places out there that sell a variety of unique drinks but this place is the spot to go to! ❤️ s/o to the workers at 7:30 am on 5/29

Enjoyed an absolutely delicious tuna melt & cardomon latte here for lunch. Service and atmosphere were also on point.

I would give this place 6 stars if I could!

The food was decent, nice omelette. The coffee was poor. Flat white was not on the menu but they were nice enough to make one for me. What I received was nothing like a flat white I would have preferred them to say no. Truly unenjoyable coffee
