It's a new restaurant and they are still in the process of figuring some things out as the menu changes weekly. But what they may lack in consistent menu items the chef makes up for it in flavor. So good! I'm praying they lock in a few go to menu items and can attract more clientele because this spot deserves to shine. LA needs some good Puerto Rican food as well.

Cabo Rojo Cocina Caribeña is a hidden gem! Stepping in feels like you’ve found a secret speakeasy, perfect for first dates, girls' night out, or even a big birthday or celebrity filled bash. The ambiance is so unique and intimate, setting the perfect vibe for any occasion. Chef Jay Anthony truly outdoes himself with the authentic flavors of the Latin Caribbean—every dish bursts with the kind of taste you’d only find on the islands. The food quality is top-notch, with every ingredient chosen with care and cooked to perfection.
The customer service is simply superb; the staff is friendly, attentive, and makes you feel like family. They go out of their way to ensure you have the best dining experience possible. I can’t say enough good things about this place. If you’re looking for a memorable night with incredible food and a one-of-a-kind atmosphere, Cabo Rojo Cocina Caribeña is the place to be!"

The guys I met when they were just opening were so sweet and welcoming that I vowed to come back once they were fully opened even following them on IG. I popped in this last Friday ordering Surf & Turfongo to go w a side rice. The waitress wasn't very nice or helpful as she responded to my queries with "read the menu" - Puerto Rican food isn't a staple in LA, I had no idea what turfongo was or other items and just wanted a lil run down. Having been a soux chef in a St Kitts Nevis Caribbean kitchen, I figured that meant the food would be top notch. Yet I ordered and sat outside, excited for something different from a new spot steps from my home. It took 20 to 30 mins to get my food so I chatted with the Hotel doorman and enjoyed the outdoors. Then I got home and saw the salad was missing so I went back and asked if 3 shrimp and a small portion of meat was the complete order, they happily said yes so I returned home to dine. The salad and shrimp were meager but delicious, the churassco was cut like a 4oz filet minon but TOUGH and stringy on a large bed of unflavored and dry mashed plantains with 3 shrimp. Seemed it was just flap meat you'd expect to marinate and cook for brisket I found chewy, stringy and inedible. The rice was overcooked and involved a small amount of sauce and beans. As seen in the pictures, the rice side was larger than the whole entree itself. I truly felt let down and hungry after spending $45. I felt like I was forgotten and treated as if I didn't deserve full value as a take out patron. I expected more seeing the placard of reviews in the restaurant in so many ways, at the very least a real take out container. Looking to celebrate a momentus career move on my own, the experience was more than a let down that I gave them the opportunity to fix; 80% of it went in the garbage.

Cabo Rojo, the latest addition to the vibrant culinary scene in Downtown Los Angeles, is a must-visit for those craving authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. Helmed by a talented chef with roots in The Boogie Down Bronx, the restaurant offers a delightful fusion of traditional flavors and modern techniques.
The mofongo with pernil was simply outstanding. The savory, mashed plantains were perfectly seasoned and complemented by the tender, flavorful pork. It's a dish that truly showcases the richness of Puerto Rican cuisine. I was equally impressed by the banana boat, a unique dessert featuring marinated beef served on a banana. The combination of sweet and savory flavors was a pleasant surprise.
If you're visiting for brunch, don't miss the soufflé pancakes. Light, fluffy, and packed with flavor, they're a delicious way to start your day. And to cap off your meal, be sure to try the coquito paleta. This frozen treat is a refreshing and indulgent way to end your dining experience.
Overall, Cabo Rojo is a 5-star experience that transports you straight to the heart of Puerto Rico. With its delicious food, warm atmosphere, and talented chef, it's quickly becoming a favorite among locals and visitors alike.

The BEST Puerto Rican/Latin Caribbean food in LA! Wonderful atmosphere and service. Salsa music and delicious fragrance fills the air here. Chef Jay Anthony and his team are a delight! There’s two sections to the restaurant.. when you walk in you have the privilege of sitting with a view of the kitchen where you can see the Chef himself cook and plate your food. The second area is in the back that you access through a secretly revolving bookcase. More seating and space for dancing and mingling. Food is unbelievably tasty and the presentation is top notch! ???✨?? Thank you Cabo Rojo for the one-of-a-kind experience!
