My girlfriend and I both loved this spot. The vibe is clean and minimalist. Service was nice and we received the food pretty fast. About 5-10 minute wait. Plenty of inside and outside seating with plenty shade. The food was amazing and the coffee was just great! Highly recommended!

The food was delicious!! Wouldn’t have expected it from a coffee shop, but one of the best breakfast spots I’ve been to in a while. What really won me over was that the chilaquiles were actually spicy🌶️!! Coffee was solid I got the vanilla latte (good amount of coffee flavor, the vanilla didn’t mask it).

To be fair - cold brew here is pretty solid and I’ve visited many times before but just had a hilarious interaction that will make me think twice about returning. Ordered a black cold brew with no ice because I have an early flight and wanted quality am coffee. Person at register told me it wouldn’t be filled to the top. Hm… how weird… but fair warning I guess. Tipped her a buck and moved to the counter. I get my coffee and it’s barely half full… and I’m an optimist! Lol, I thought she meant… maybe an inch of room at the top… but hard line at half full. Asked for clarification and while the baristas were super polite and friendly, even offering to fill it up the rest of the way for an additional $1.75 my flabbers were gasted. Lol? This is $5.50 worth of coffee apparently typically crammed with lots of ice. Here’s the thing, I would have spent way more money over my lifespan there than the 15 cents worth of product they would have lost out on by filling that to the top. What a silly hill to die on. Can’t speak to anything else at Civil but I can tell you that when superior choices like Kindness and Mischief or Jane are available in the neighborhood, there’s no reason to come here for cold brew.

Running ‘round Highland and stumbled upon this little gem.
This place is a good vibe.
LOVED IT!
A decent but good menu and a variety of pastries to go with the brew.
I had the chilaquiles and they’re okay.
I also tried the bfast burrito and this is better for me than the chilaquiles.
My almond milk; hot latte was exactly what I expected.
I’m a regular because I love coffee and this place is fast. They get you in and out very swiftly.

It’s official I really love highland park. This Civil location is tucked away in the cutest area by a railroad. Interior is nice, lots of seating, good vibes. Drink was solid— they were out of a few things so had to pivot, but it was great. I don’t think Civil would be a regular spot for me, but it’s certainly a solid one and good for studying.

I really wanted to like Civil Coffee but unfortunately it fell short. I ordered a matcha and it was easily one of the worst I have ever had. It was far too milky, completely overpowering the matcha itself, which already had a strange unpleasant flavor. For the price it was seriously disappointing.
The cinnamon bun was actually pretty good, soft, warm, and flavorful, but again not worth the high price tag. The interior is nicely decorated and has a decent vibe but nothing that makes up for the underwhelming drinks or inflated prices.
Overall I would not recommend it. There are better options in the area with more reasonable pricing and better quality.

Overall I love this place but the DJ today (march 15) needs to turn down the music!!! It’s cool Brazilian jazz stuff- I think it’s some Gilberto Gil playing- but it’s way too damn loud for the space. It’s making people have to speak even louder than normal to be able to hear each other; also when you walk in from the street the noise is overwhelming…
