If you can’t pull Oaxaca but are savoring to sample the cuisine, Comedor Tenchita makes a great alternative without the airfare. It is nestled in the backyard of a home in West Adams. I believe it is only open on Sundays. Once seated you can easily imagine being in Mexico. I wish I could try every item at the same time but that is impossible, so I will simply keep returning to try new things. The homestyle rice and beans at restaurants often get overlooked, but here you can tell a lot of heart is put into even the "simpler" things. Chile relleno is a must-have here. I have a lot to learn about Oaxacan kitchens but everything is delicious and comforting.
