Always reliable El Compadre serves old-school Mexican American food, and the food is always delicious. The service can be erratic, but the food and drinks make up for it. Way better than other nearby Mexican restaurants, this is one of our stand-bys and we are twice a month regulars.
The experience began with a frustrating start when our reservation was pushed back on arrival to accommodate the owner giving away our table to their own guests. However, the food was delicious and the waiter was friendly. Annoying situation but overall nice for a casual Monday night dining experience with the family.
I love El Compadre! Family was in town and the first night they got in we went here as a “Welcome to LA” dinner to set the vibe for the trip. It was amazing. Service is great, margaritas are amazing, the booth for 7 people was such a nice experience and the food was really delicious - it's always consistent. We went on Sunday when they have mariachis, extra fun. They're there at least twice a week. Chips and salsa come for free and it's one of my favorite salsas...
