I just had the worst experience at this restaurant. I have supported this location for many many years. I even supported them through the pandemic by getting take out orders. They have continued to become more pretentious over the years and continue raising prices. The wait for a table is often very long. We went early today to avoid the dinner rush and they made us stand there like idiots before even greeting us. After standing there for what felt like an eternity we overhead the waiter telling people it was last call for their happy hour which was about 5 minutes til 6. Finally someone came and said they'd seat us soon while looking at their watch. It then started to make sense because another person came over while checking their watch and also said they'd be right with us. The girl (Angel) who claims to be the manager finally came to seat us and said wait a minute while checking her watch, then sort of disappeared until another guy came to seat us. She then intervened and took the menus from the guy and told us we couldn't have happy hour because it was past 6:00. They clearly waited to seat us until happy hour was over which is extremely tacky. We did plan on eating off the happy hour menu since we found out that's the only way they now offer their gringas since they keep changing the menu. Upon waiting for our seats I noticed their health code B rating that seemed sort of hidden. It amazes me that they try and charge what they are charging and act all pretentious while having a B rating. They also charge a a small fortune for chips and salsa, which is now bundled with guacamole which is ridiculous. This was my favorite restaurant for many years. It was where I went for birthdays, special occasions, and also where I would bring friends and family. I will never return or recommend this place EVER again. Horrible AWFUL customer service. She should be ashamed of herself with her dismissive and abrasive bad attitude. On our last visit they seated a couple that showed up after us before us. At least if I never return I will never have to wait outside in the cold while they use preferential treatment to decide WHO they're going to seat first to eat their over priced food in their restaurant with a B health code rating.

My partner and I have supported Madre going back to when they were a hole in the wall. Also we were one of their very few customers during the peak of the pandemic. Unfortunately, we will move on and no longer return here. The girl named Angel was rude and dismissive towards us. They intentionally kept us waiting to be seated when there were open tables everywhere. They kept checking their watches with 15 minutes left of happy hour, clearly not to give it. I let the gentleman know we were wanting to order off happy hour (only way to order Gringa tacos). "Angel" intervened and said THERES NO MORE HAPPY HOUR. When my partner became upset and explained to her that we had been waiting longer than 10 minutes, she was dismissive with her insincere sorry and 'have a nice day', that by the way, was most definitely a condescending way of saying 'I don't care'. When she kept saying this, it was absolutely meant to insult us because it's not what she said, it's how she said it. Pretty much LEAVE. So that's what we did, LEFT. This is ridiculous that anybody and everybody that works there knows us, but she could care less. SOLUTION: Never returning to be disrespected by your staff. NEVER EVER!

The food was awful! The black beans were cold, and they used a lot of oil on everything. The meat was not fresh. The waiter seemed tired and annoyed. We sat by the window, and the frames looked like they hadn't been cleaned. I don't recommend it.

Came here to say WOW! The food was incredible! Wonderful service and a cute ambiance. The mole Negro was incredible. I was eating and already anticipating coming back for another memorable dinner! I loved the Mezcalita con Sal De Gusano! I can't wait to dine again!

Almost empty and have been waiting outside for 10 minutes. Short staffed? Food is usually solid.

Delicious food but expensive happy hour. I've never been here after happy hour. I've had the mole, fish tacos, asada tacos, chips, salsa and guacamole. All were delicious and tasted fresh. I don't think happy hour tacos should be more than $5 anywhere. Why were the chips and salsa not included? Recently, my friend and I got 2 tacos each, the chips, salsa and guac, a margarita and an agua Fresca. That ended up being $60 Service was fast and there was street parking.

Our waiter, Juan, was great! He explained the menu, offered suggestions, and more.I am a huge fan of Mole' sauce and they have FIVE different styles.I tried a plate with three mole' options. I chose chicken breast as my meat choice. It was fabulous! The presentation was great, the food was amazing, and Juan made it perfect.I'm going back Friday!

Food is not too bad but the service sucks. It has been declining over time. The servers don't offer any chips or salsa or up sale and they take their sweet time to acknowledge our table. I'm not sure whether they prefer going to the tables where they assume will tip better just bcz they're of different race or couples. Not knowing that we're probably going to tip higher since my husband is in the business & we like to take care of our servers. If they start having better service I would go bcz the food is good, but until now they're lagging that part. Only the horchata has to be better, not sure if that's the way it's supposed to taste but I returned it the first time I tried it. Now I only settle for soft drink bcz I don't like their alcoholic drinks either.

Terrible service, I waited almost an hour for my food. I asked the waiter what was better, he got angry and ignored the food. They never asked if it took up anything else. I honestly don't recommend it.

idk where to start. this place SUCKS!!! the quality has gone done horribly. it took an hour for us to order our food. the food comes out luke warm and mediocre in flavor, portions are ridiculous, prices high. ya just save ur money and go somewhere authentic. i recommend a spot on washington and centinela some of the most delicious flavorful oaxacan food in LA. this place is ass AND a B rating wish i could get my money back.

Came here a couple times only. Once for happy hour once for regular menu. Have not tried the food extensively, but what I've had was good, 3.5 stars for the food. And what I see come out looks good. They also have artisenal cerveza from Mexico- which is great. The BIG downside is they charge for salsa! 3 dollars for a very small salsa on the side- absolutely ridiculous. It's ok salsa, nothing great- I've had stellar salsa before. They didn't say it was extra either when I asked for it, and happen to sneak into the bill. What Mexican restaurant charges extra for salsa? That's unheard of. Yes, I've been to a lot of Mexican restaurants, taquerias, street tacos, and to Oaxaca as well. Bring your own salsa/hot sauce bottle! WTF

Kept it simple and got the tacos. Maybe their Moles are better. But the tacos were not great. A lot of guacamole on top not much flavor and a little chewy. The cleanliness of the restaurant was also a little questionable.
