Terrible service:
I stopped here on a lunch break, not realizing it was a sit and grill type of spot. I ordered to go the 5 lamb skewers, which came out to $21 after tip.
I tried asking if it came with any sides, as I saw sides are brought out to tables with the meat.
We had a bit of a language barrier, so I tried pointing to what I meant, to which she looked annoyed that I was in there as a non-regular that spoke only English.
When she handed me over my food, I saw it was just one small little box, which I tried to be optimistic about until I felt how light it was. The skewers were cut up to fit the box, but only looked to be about 6 oz of meat. The entire portion could fit in the palm of one very dainty hand. A poor portion, with no sides that are included normally included, no rice, and no attempt at communication or quality of service, all for $21.

We went there on December 31st. We usually like this place because the food and service are good, but this time we had an unpleasant experience.
There was a large table in the middle with about eight people who were extremely loud. Every time we tried to talk, we couldn’t hear each other because of the noise. It completely affected the atmosphere.
What made it even more uncomfortable was that people from that table were constantly walking around and taking drinks directly from the fridge without asking a waiter. My parents were seated right next to the fridge, so people were walking back and forth beside them the entire time. I don’t know if they were the owners or staff, but this kind of behavior lowered the quality and professionalism of the restaurant.
This was supposed to be a New Year’s Eve lunch with my parents, and unfortunately, my parents didn’t enjoy it because of the noise and chaos. It was disappointing, especially since we normally enjoy dining here.

So delicious and I loved the self rotating grill!
We arrived a bit after 5 pm on a Sunday and snagged one of the last available tables. We ordered a variety of skewers and some fried intestines. All delicious and would love to try more items next time!

Recommended dishes: Lamb Skewers
Lots of places these days for Chinese skewers, Feng Mao is among the best. Inside is not large, street parking is the thing, and their skewers are generously cut compared to most of their competitors. Service is pretty good, as are some of the cooked dishes, especially the eggplant.

Superb. The fusion of Korean and Chinese cuisines really works here. Get the mala lamb skewers, the richness of the lamb sets off the mala. Chicken hearts were notably excellent, pork belly- enoki great. Don’t be afraid of the bull penis, if you like tendon you will like this. The lotus dish was excellent and the banchan gave you a vinegar reset of your tastebuds. Get some rice to contrast with the meat. V friendly staff , huge menu to explore. Just a great place.

I hadn’t been to Feng Mao in over 10 years, so it felt nostalgic to come back. Back then, there was always a long line, and from what I could see, that hasn’t changed much.
This time, a friend picked the restaurant. While they don’t have their own parking lot, you can park across the street at Hanmi Bank on 5th, so parking wasn’t an issue for me.
We ordered a variety of skewers — lamb (their specialty), beef, and octopus. The first thing that caught my eye was the auto-turning skewer rack. Such a cool upgrade! It rotates the skewers for you, so the grilling is even and effortless. I don’t remember them having that back in the day. The skewers all came out perfectly cooked if you pull them off at the right time, and the flavor was solid.
We also tried the marinated cucumbers, grilled chives, and sweet and sour pork. The cucumbers were light and refreshing. The chives, grilled with sauce, had great flavor, though a bit on the salty side (easy fix: just dip less into the sauce). The sweet and sour pork was different from the typical Chinese style — heavier on the batter and with a lighter sauce that leaned sweet without much sour. The pork itself was crunchy, so it was still enjoyable, just a different take on the dish.
Overall, the meal was satisfying. The service was fine — not overly attentive, but things ran smoothly, especially if you can speak Korean or Chinese.
I’d recommend Feng Mao if you enjoy skewers, especially lamb. Just keep in mind that dinner time, especially on weekends, can come with a wait.
